Will R. Rex Parris put the city of Palmdale on Dialysis?
If it were me I would seriously reconsider representing the family of the lifeguard injured training to get a job in Palmdale.
Considering that there is already bad blood between Lancaster and Palmdale (rooted in statements made by officials) it’s just bad form to stoke the fire by being involved in a potential civil suit with your neighbor/sister city.
While as a matter of fact it would be the Law Firm of R. Rex Parris vs. the City of Palmdale, the population will only see it as Lancaster Mayor vs. Palmdale Mayor or more specifically Lancaster vs. Palmdale.
Today’s headline in the Valley Press lays it all out like a line in the sand labeled “Avenue M”. While Parris isn’t mentioned until page 2 and 2/3 the way down it plays to me more like a press release for an upcoming Pay Per View fight.
Only time will tell if Parris takes the high road, investigates and finds the truth or if they turn this into a major divisive matter, only further creating a rift between the community (and officials) of Lancaster and Palmdale.

As for the matter in question hopefully the individual who is responsible for injuring these people is held accountable. Peer pressure in just as bad in the work place as it is in social life and when someone’s job is on the line additional risks are taken that often lead to physical and emotional injury.

Although I voted for Rex, most of us know the divide between the city of Lancaster and the city of Palmdale is political. If the mayor of Palmdale was an AVRA guy or gal, the two cities would have merged. The name for this mega desert metropolis would be Viscodale.
Since Ledford has a firm grasps on Palmdale, and appears to be the more aggressive when it comes to development of retail and residential, Palmdale has been given an edge in attracting business and has the foundation for a tax base.
Lancaster on the other hand has been more slow and deliberate, calculating, and builds based on the wants and needs of it’s citizens (grain of salt please, AVRA’s citizens.)
One thing both cities have in common, is they were succesfull in bringing the ghetto from down below to our lovely desert communities.
Both cities have errored during the last 20 years. Ledford, since he has been at the helm for most of that time, can take a lot of blame for overbuilding in Palmdale, especially in residential developments. Ledford failed to build a suitable infrastruture to accomodate the increasing population.
Lancaster has had a variety of mayors, all of whom follow the wishes of the great investor in the sky Visco. While Lancaster builds to suit a certain few, it has missed out on keeping up with Palmdale and their successes on the retail side.
This current law suit, will be used to ignite the fire of hatred between the two mayors rather than for the injured people. Kind of like Obama and Rham Emannual in the White House, making political gains out of a dissaster.

One thing that struck me odd, was Ledford’s comment: “This is fair game for any injury attorney,”. I wonder what he said before or after that comment?
Both cities overbuilt during the housing boom, offering cheap land to developers. When the economy started to tank, investors & homeowners turned to rentals via Section 8 for guaranteed return $$ from state & feds.
Am sure AVRA had ALOT to do with that, didn’t they?
If the cities merged, the residents would be left in the dust for any balanced representation.
Should the two mayors propose such a deal, you’ll see the same flight you saw with residents in Lancaster, when Parris became mayor.
Ledford had built a suitable structure to accompany the population – but guess what? They’re all gone, due to foreclosures, loss of jobs in LA, and especially high gas prices that no longer made it lucrative for folks to live up here – and drive down.
At times it seems the city planners of both cities never took a planning class. With boom comes bust, in any economy. Both cities are guilty of not looking beyond their nose and instead were more focused on the easy money.
True, the Cactus Curtain now has barbed wire around it, and will get more intense if Parris is involved in this lawsuit. He’s made it clear he plans to circumvent the mayor of Palmdale for his agenda.
Btw, the so-called ‘political gain’ NeoCon mantra that Obama & Emannual are profiting from victims of the Gulf spill is bullcrap. What? BP’s not responsible for the man-made volcano in the gulf? Or, are profits/corporations more important than people, the environment or the entire US?
That’s ok – Joe Barton,R-Texas filled us in.

Was it not Emannual who said that there is no crisis that they can turn into a political gain, or something to that respect. Roxi, I enjoy reading your post. No matter if we agree, you have to blast any conservative point of view I have. I have come to a conclusion that you do not have an open mind and are caught up in being a far left liberal communist socialistic deposet (got that from Matt) who hates anyone who has a different point of view or outlook on things.

Gee, that sounds an awful lot like what Bush and the Republicans did with 9-11 and Iraq, doesn’t it?

OH Matt: This is a good one. Being this is off of topic, but, alot of us conservatives wonder what would President Matt Keltner have done after the 911 attacks? I think Bush acted as best he could. We could have taken the Jimmy Carter approach, the Bill Clinton approach, or the W Bush approach. W’s was probably the best considering the other two. Reagen probably would have obliterated a couple a small Islamic countries. We know what Obama is doing.
President Keltner has now offered an apology to the rest of the world for America’s mistakes and capitalistic failures and attempting to dominate the rest of the world.

The Lifeguard Training course sounded like the instructor(s) developed training that was too extreme. Lifeguards need to be conditioned and ready to push physical endurance to extreme limits, but it appears the training went to far.
I don’t know if the students signed any type of waivers, but when three get injured because of extreme exhaustion, something probably went wrong.

AV Press asks a good question in their editorial. What did Steve Williams and Jim Ledford know, and when did they know it. Also, when did they inform the rest of the City Council. Ledford has always put himself above the interests of the city, and recently national security, but this is perhaps the most heartless, disgusting example of his political ambition and hubris.

all because ledford is more popular then rex. he’s hoping if he can get enough bad publicity against jim, no one will notice the lawsuits against rex. but why is the avpress so willing to be rex’s bitch?
we got a lil school girl 4 mayor. and i see nothing but tantrums in our future. no mention of rex attacking the palmdale power plant yesterday.
they act all suprised, like this hasn’t been the plan for 12 years. maybe if our leaders made a meetings outside of city hall, they wouldn’t be so surprised.
maybe after the 3rd or 4th lawsuit, people will get a clue.
nah, we’re talking the AV. people want to be spanked by daddy, not have a leader! to bad they’ll take the rest of us down with them. they don’t deserve better then rex.

Lancaster, you are correct.
As far as Palmdale, what has the Mayor have to do with this tragedy? Ultimately it’s up to City manager Steve Williams, who said he is investigating and will report the results.
Palmdale is not known for hiding things from the media like the city of Lancaster.
Life guard training is strenuous. They have to be able save lives. You ought to see what LA County lifeguards must go thru. Look at what fire and law enforcement trainees go thru.
yes, this is a tragedy and should be investigated. let’s see what Mr. Williams comes up with. he can’t, by law reveal action against any employee. That’s considered confidential. he did say that the director of parks and recs was no longer an employee. Enough said.
I’m sure after the investigation is complete, a determination will be made as to whether or not those in charge of the training went too far or if this was just a tragic accident. This happens during high school football.
it’s hard to know how much endurance every single person has. It’s NOT always visible to coaches when a player is suffering.
So let’s see where this goes. Give the City a chance and not fall for the ambulance chasing Asshole’s PR crap!

Palmdale hid it this time. It’s been well over a week and they tried to sweep these kids under a rug.
As for popularity
Rex Parris received 7,458 votes in his last election
Jim “I need bribes so I don’t get a real job” Ledford received 6,414
Can you guys count? I know it hurts…

if a kid died, or one has permanent physical damage, then it’s a tragedy.
at this point, it would appear to be just some scary, SHORT TERM INJURY’S.
so give the drama a rest, lil drama queen rex.
how’s that mongol lawsuit coming?
and who’s wife sold what property to lancaster?
how’s the perry board?
rex, u going to make the walmart court date?
got ur ass covered on the election court date yet?
and rex got votes, cuz the local christian leaders aren’t above whoring jesus!
by the way, how much $$$ have u set aside for that?
guess it’s REAL important to make jim look bad.
hhhhmmmmm wonder who’s been pointing fingers?

the most humorous aspect of the rex zombies is the outrage over the “poor children”.
it was rex who has covered for gilley’s lack of repair work on the ceder center,
that has left 2 dangerous PROPANE tanks on site, and asbestos throughout. how many kids been exposed to what could have been tragic, AS IN DEATH!
NOW THAT HE’S BULLIED OUT the tenants,
do we get to find out where the money that was allocated back in “94” for the cleanup went? gilley was city manager back then, right?
maybe someone from av hosp, can LEAK the answer to the av press?

Officials probe new case of taped fights at L.A. County juvenile probation camp
L.A. County probation officials find videos on YouTube of fights between students at a Lancaster camp. Investigators will conduct interviews and examine computers to determine the teacher responsible.
June 12, 2010|By Molly Hennessy-Fiske and Garrett Therolf, Los Angeles Times
Los Angeles County probation officials are investigating organized fights between incarcerated youth in a juvenile probation camp classroom, the second time in recent months that they have acknowledged such bouts.
The new incidents, which came to light when probation authorities discovered three fight videos posted to the Internet, raise concerns about lack of supervision in a department already under federal scrutiny.

Yes Perris should excuse himself and his law firm from any law suits dealing with the city of Palmdale. But knowing how much of money hungry person that he is he won’t. If he does I hope that the city of Palmdale will go after him with a conflict of interest charge.

Yes, Parris should recuse himself from this lawsuit, as he will profit via representing his law firm, even in name only – for financial and political gain.
What I’m wondering is ‘where where the parents’ of these lifeguards in training? If they didn’t notice their children were exhausted, and being abused-they must be blind.
This is also another example of downsizing a city program with less oversight (reads: less employees). If this city program was fully staffed, it would’ve been harder for this maniac-swim-coach to abuse these swimmers!
Also exposes how desperate people are to keep a job these days. The fact that they’re willing to sacrifice their health for a paycheck is criminal.
Also puts into question the lifeguard who died in that car crash last week. What was her mental and physical condition before the crash?
These military-style boot-camp “training” programs have got to stop. Granted, Palmdale achieved high honors for their qualified lifeguard program—at what cost?
Total negligence – starting with the parents to the top.
