ENTITLEMENT
Don’t know who wrote it but how true it is in both the government of the federal and the states
I PAID CASH for my Social security insurance. Our benefits ar NOT some type of charity or handout!!
Congressional benefits… premium federal healthcare, outrageous retirement pacckages, 67 pad holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days!!!
Now THAT’S welfare! and they hgave the nerve to call my retirement an entitllement!!!!!!

I get CALPERS retirement. For the most part, CALPERS has made money with investments. There have been a few bad ones, but they have made billions to protect their members. I feel sorry for the LA City workers and LA County employees who have to rely on their retirments coming out of those mini versions of California.
CALPERS has enough money to bail out the state, however, the Democrats running the state would rack up the same debt with more entitlement spending and building BS High Speed rail systems that won’t work.

As a public employee for 34 years that was layed off because the superitendent wanted a 78,000 pay increase 5 of us got the axe. He didn’t think at 160,000 a year was good enough. I was able to retire and get 64% of my base pay.
Our state representives get over $175,000 a year, paid medical, per deim of $125 per day and $1100 per month for houseing and there are more when they term out they get 75% of their salary for a retirement that they didn’t put one cent into, where I had to put 7% each month into mind.
These are the ones that say it’s the public employee fault that this state is broke yea right.

This is for all you Democrats out there. The High Speed Rail project is nothing more than a Democratic way to keep the unions making money. The project will take DECADES to complete. The plan is to keep union workers building it so the unions will redirect money back to Democratic campaigns. The goal of the project is not to build a High Speed rail line that will turn a profit, it is to pay unions to build it. The promises of a short train ride from LA to SF is a Democrat lie.
Does anyone think the train ride will be none stop? Hell no! There will be multiple stops all up and down the line.
The whole project is a scam for unions to work on a project nobody will use in 30 years. The unions won’t care either.

Your right social security isn’t an entitlement, we paid money into it. Unfortunately there are many legal and illegal immigrants who collect SSI and SDI who hasn’t paid a penny and they collect it with very few problems while americans can take up to two years to get SSI, I saw two illegal aliens get SSI in two months. That is what is wrong with social security and the fact that Bush and other president took money out and never replaced it.

If people don’t ride the train, businesses will not open near the routes. If it is being built, communities will get a boost for as long as construction is occurring. That is why the construction will take forever, long after we are dead. It is job security for unions.

Highground: I haven’t voted for a tax increase ever know matter what it’s for. It doesn’t matter who is in office they blame the unions the public employees or any of the other social programs. When all of these bonds that get voted in or one or the other parties want something they have to get the money someplace so where do they get it but the schools programs or someother programs that was started with a mandate.
California is bankrupt the Republican blame the public unions and others when they are just as guilty as the Democrats. Who needs to take the cuts are the ones that are making the cuts. Everyone at the Capital should take a 50% cut and no retirement after they are out of the office.

When I lived in California , I voted fir one tax increase, and that was a local Palmpton Park Tax or bond. Big mistake. Promises made by Ledford never came to be, although there was improvements in the city parks. At least the money went fir the parks, but lies about certain projects made 15 yrs ago are no longer in the plans.

You have a very good understanding of the plight we are in. With the failure of the fiat currency (federal reserve note)we have the opportunity to restore the Constitutional republic. As the Federal Reserve Bank is well on the way to self destruction. It will probably happen before November.
America does not have to go down with the Fed. Congress can just repeal the Federal Reserve Act and issue US Treasury notes, backed by silver or gold. American citizens, and only American citizens could then exchange the worthless fiat Fed Note for Treasuries. The rest of the world would then have to deal with the private Federal Reserve Bank on their own terms.
China knows what is going to happen, in reguard to the private Federal Reserve Bank implosion. That is why they are being allowed to deal directly with the treasury and convert their fiat Federal Reserve Notes to Treasuries.

Scranton PA. The mayor of Scranton reduced the salaries of all city employees to minimum wage including his own. The financial situation forced the mayors hand, either lay off many employees, or reduce the pay to keep employees their jobs. A different approach.

Not surprising given the constant robbing done by the State of California to its cities. Cities have made cuts in staff, programs; so have schools, businesses and the counties. But the State? Business as usual. They need to do their fair share during this economy. They haven’t.

leonardpfemkin as long as california caters and panders to illegal and legal immigration the state and the people will continue to suffer. The way the state of california does business with businesses also causes many to leave the state reducing tax income accordingly. I saw first hand in california when I worked at the J&D Collection when Lancaster made my boss do a EPA clean up for where he had moved to and had not caused, this forced J&D to close its doors.

The state needs to set priorities. Public Safety, education, and roads. Eliminating college education for immigrants, welfare for immigrants, and entitlements for dead beats like the Occupy chuds , would be a start for getting the state back on track.
Do away with the high business taxes and make it profitable for businesses to operate within the state. Jump starting California is easy. Get rid of the Democrats and bring in leadership that knows how to turn a profit.

You and I know who is really to blame for the problems in San Bernardino. It is the people who live there. It was not the Republicans or the Democrats it was all of them. They have called each other silly names and ignored their cowardess. Both parties ignore their responsibility to defend and protect the Constitution. Even the Supreme Court ignored the Constitution and exempted ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTGS, when it wrote law in the health plan jubgement. THE TWO SETS OF LAWS, ONE FOR ILLEGALS AND ONE FOR EVERY ONE ELSE, IS BRINGING THE CITIES, COUNTIES AND STATES DOWN….. How far behind are Lancanster and Palmdale?
What is the true unemployment rate in Lancaster and Palmdale? Do people on welfare have jobs? If they do not have jobs then the undemployment rate must be at least 50%.
Sould we consider reducing the staff at local schools, for lack of funds, when we allow ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, to attend those schools, without paying any fee?

CA has been going in this direction for the last 40 years. One of the problems is how (not only the state, but local agencies, municipalities and counties, as well) have kowtowed to the unions.
One ploy was to increase retirement packages in lieu of salaries. The reason was that retirement funding was NOT required to be calculated in said agencies annual budgets. Federal law last year changed that. Now (and only now) have our fearless leaders become aware of that liability. They got screwed by the unions!
You add to that the current fiscal crisis (See leonardpflemkins statement above) and you have a dire situation in which real people are gonna get screwed, big time. Mainly innocent retirees (I’m not talking about those who earn more that 75% of their base salary—they are part of the problem) but this will affect those on the lower end.
CA may be forced into bankruptcy (which technically they are.) Our woes will only get worse. Even if the US economy were to turn around tomorrow, CA will not benefit at all. The ship is sinking and all we have to bail us out is one bucket. We are in deep shit with little or no hope for the future. AVB and CW you are both lucky you bailed from the state. I wish I could afford to.
CA will be joining the SS Titanic at the bottom of the sea. We are taking in water faster than we can bail. Get your scuba gear together (get extra tanks.)

As long as California continues to dump 22.6 billion dollars every year on providing illegal immigrants with welfare, free education, free health care, free child care, free medical care California is doomed as is other states who pander and cater to illegal immigrants. Look at how the crime rate jumped in both Lancaster and Palmdale with not just the south central people moving to the AV and the illegal immigrants moving there. Frankly I would have stayed in california, but you see the state and federal government would rather provide free medical services to illegal immigrants than to a disabed veteran such as myself. I had to leave to get the operations that just were not going to happen in California, not that Georgia is the better state but because they are attempting to stop the illegal alien nonsense here in this state. I don’t think the Veteran’s Hospital Administration is good in any state, it just varies a little, some is better and some are far worse, california is worse because the VA has so many immigrant doctors who can’t get a job in the private sector simpy because they aren’t worth a damn as a doctor.

17 GOP Governors have reduced enemployment numbers. Even in Michigan. California is doomed. I don’t know what the Dem Gov Brown, the Dem controlled state senate, or the Dem controlled State Assembly gonna do to fix the problem. The solution to Cali’s problem goes agianst traditional Democrat rules. Dems want to over tax, ever reaching regulations, and win votes through entitlements. To turn the state around would go against their pkaybook.

I too am a public employee collecting a retirement. I don’t have a paid medical plan as the city I worked for, only provided paid medical for city administrators. Rank and file pick up their own.
I also support Governor Walker because his plan will actually save existing retirements by modifying employee contributions to help pick up the tab for those retirements. In California, to many public employee unions made out like bandits by supporting Democrats. In return, retiremements that are to good to be true. The biggest crooks, the Prison Guards’ Union.
I retired at 81% of my base pay which did not include overtime. SoCal Edison and LADWP are also big unions who have retirees eho are overpaid beyond their base salaries. Until piticuans stop giving political paybacks to unions, all retirements may be jeopardized. Thanks Democratic Party of California!
