Iran, Jimmy Carters Legacy
Hundreds of thousands of protestors in the streets? Riot Police beating protestors? Confined opposition leaders being tortured and murdered in jail? Sounds like pre 1979 Iran doesn’t it?

However, it’s Iran today. Today’s headlines show where hundreds of thousands of protestors are in the streets today chanting “death to the dictator”, burning the pictures of the “grand leader” and fighting with the elite “revolutionary guard”. Why, well, according to the Iranian people, the presidential election was stolen from them and their grand opposition leader the Grand Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri, died and is being mourned.

The Grand Ayatollah helped overthrow the Shaw in 1979 and bring in the “Islamic Revolution” and the “Powers that be” in Iran today. Feeling that the revolution was being compromised and taken over by corrupt powermongers, the Grand Ayatollah spoke out against them and was promptly arrested and placed under house arrest by the very same people he helped come to power.

Definitely sounds like 1979 doesn’t it? Didn’t anyone warn the Iranians that when they tossed out the Shaw, who needed tossing by the way, that their supposed “religious governmental harmony” wouldn’t last long? Didn’t the Iranians learn that “power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely”?

Jimmy Carter. What can be said of Jimmy Carter that hasn’t already been said? I wonder, will Jimmy Carter speak out against the totalitarian regime he helped create by sitting on his hands during the 1979 takeover? I keep watching all of the news channels but can’t seem to find him anywhere.

CNN reported that as many as 30 detainees may have been murdered in custody. Iran itself admits that it’s own citizens have been murdered while in police custody and have closed the prison. Sounds like the Shaw’s regime again doesn’t it only this time the left isn’t screaming from the pulpits to oust the Shaw or anyone else for that matter. No, the left sits there once again as Jimmy Carter did and does nothing.

Many left and right strategists have said that Iran is the greatest threat to the stability of the Middle East and still our President sits and does nothing. Oh, okay, he shook his finger at them, might even throw a shoe at them.

Our nation seems to always get involved in other countries business except where it counts. The Iranian people are yearning to be rid of the power elite dictator yet we do nothing, say nothing and encourage nothing. Iran developers nuclear technology and we shake a finger at them. Iran invades Iraq and takes an oil well and we say nothing. Iran kills it’s own citizens and we sit idly by.

Is the actions or inactions of the left in our country the same as Jimmy Carter’s in 1979? If it were the Shaw doing this exact same thing right now would our Democratic President and congress be standing on table tops and screaming about the inhumane treatment and actions of the government of Iran? Would our President cut off all ties and funding for the Iranian Government as Jimmy Carter did in 1979?

These double standards keep many nations at arms length away from us not because we might come over and knock you down a time or two, but then again we may not, just depends on how we feel and who’s the president I guess. What I mean is that we have no clear policy against regimes that are a threat to us and who would kill their own people. Case in point, Iraq. Please, give me a break. Iraq was never a threat yet we’ve lost over 5,000 of our brothers and sisters there and for what? The real attention should have been Iran all along.

Would the Iranian people welcome us? I don’t know, did we learn any lessons from Iraq and Afghanistan? What have we done to encourage the Iranian military to stop this assault on it’s own people and let the people decide as the original Islamic revolution called for?

I guess we’ll sit on our hands again Mr. Obama and let this happen when we could have taken great advantage of the people rising up in Iran to rid them of their petty dictator and hand Iran back to the Iranians. You see Mr. Obama, it’s the people of Iran who have risen up and are being stepped on by this modern era jack booted thug under the disguise of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

What part will Jimmy Carter’s Legacy play in the events unfolding in Iran today? What comparisons will be drawn by historians with the Carter and Obama presidency? Will the Obama legacy be the same as the Carter presidency in Iran? Time will tell Mr. Obama, time will tell.

Well, that’s my opinion, I welcome yours

Lancaster..I think you missed the point…it is a drawing of coincidences between the two Presidents.

Irag, a senseless and tragic escapade vs a nation rising up and wanting to be free.

Sorry if you felt I intended to say we “needed” another war, it was not my intent.

Thanks for your response

Oh Please, Randy! The Bush family and the Bin Laden’s of the Saudi Arabia petro empire are best friends. If anyone had access to Bin Laden, it would have been George W. Bush. That is to say, if the whole “9/11” and “Bin Laden” thing is even believable anymore? I have serious reservations about it and the motives behind it. At times, I even posit the thought that “Bin Laden” is perhaps merely a fictional character.

At this point, a “conspiracy theory” makes more sense than why, if a “Bin Laden” does indeed exist, can’t our all-powerful, inventor of the GPS System —U.S. government — locate “him”.

I guess we’re all just supposed to keep marching and not ask questions like that…

Merry Christmas to you too, Randy! :-)

George Bush could have captured Bin Laden if he had wanted to. Everyone knows that except Randy. It’s not that difficult when he’s dragging around a kidney dialysis machine and as Matt says we have the technology to track a bug down sitting on someone’s rose bush.

Bush just wanted an excuse to exterminate Iraq and people like Randy sucked it all up — including the vial Powell held up that probably had more urine in it than any chemical warfare sample.

The problem is that we are all dupes. Randy is duped into believing that his side never does any evil. The opposing point of view is that we are purer than pure.

The reality is that there is no difference at the top. It’s all about green — money, contractors jobs, power, and more power.

Hey, track down Barbara Bush’s family line. She’s the real bitch of the family and the one who had the real money connections. Daddy George was just a sucker and bobbing head, much like his son.

Cheney was the devil that’s why I’m glad I’m no where near him — physically. When the old heart of his finally stops, he’s going to grab the first poor soul he can — dead or alive — and rip his heart out of his chest. These people are evil — and they’re all around us, including locally.

Newsday – wouldn’t worry so much about Carter’s legacy. I think history will show that Bush was the true Lucifer if ever there was one. And to top it off he was spineless. As long as he’s surrounded by men to protect him, he shoots off his mouth. He’s the reason his family can’t go many places.

Bush is probably living in terror. The people he has offended in the middle east don’t want away. They wait and pounce. I am glad I am in no way even remotedly related to that idiot. What a president for the historians to try to figure out something intelligent and nice to say about. It’s almost impossible.

A very good friend of mine flew with Bush in the South Pacific during WWII. I loved Stan Butchart like a father. My mom knew Stan when she worked for NACA which was NASA before the name change. Stan flew with Neil Armstrong who my mom knew too. Neil sat me in the cockpit of an X15 when I was younger. My mom carpooled with Stan.

Stan said you could meet no finer person that GHWB. Stan went to several birthday parties when elder Bush was president and the stories Stan told me that GHWB was a real American. He loved guns and had a shooting arcade you had to see to believe.

You guys have your feelings and books that Michael Moore loves, I have personal testimony.

Jeb’s brother Neil Bush. He cost American taxpayers $1 billion after some shady loans he made caused the Silverado Savings and Loan to go under in 1988. Now he’s making millions selling software to Florida schools. Now he’s divorcing his wife and leaving her broke, after he had several affairs and contracted a venereal disease (scroll down). When George Bush, Sr. was the Vice President, he was involved in secretly selling weapons to our enemy Iran. The money from the weapons sales went to build a secret army that was trying to overthrow the Nicaraguan government. This resulted in years of violence and slaughter for many thousands of Central Americans, and it allowed thousands of tons of drugs to be dumped on the streets of America. When he was president, George Bush, Sr. gave a presidential pardon to the others who were involved in the Iran-Contra scandal.

So Obama loves Bill Ayres, who bombed the Pentagon, and you knew that when you voted for him.

Also GW and his father are past presidents. We have a new president that is in control now. Boy in control is an understatement. Wonder why GW and his father are not tossed in jail or shot by Obama?

I think the fringy left would dance in the streets if Obama grew a pair and tried GW and his dad for war crimes.

Actually, I take no interest in so-called war crimes tribunals nor in the individuals who are their focus. For it is my belief that such tribunals merely reinforce the already erroneous notion that both war and war crimes are the result of “bad peolple” rather than a now thoroughly antisocial socioeconomic system that cannot possibly survive without war.
