Local level law enforcement officers frequently have to deal with serious street crimes that occur in areas that are occupied by those with less money and/or social status. Their ability to get to information is hard enough without being viewed as immigration police. I wonder how many crimes that will occur in those types of areas that will go unsolved due to the fear of witnesses and victims to speak with the police because they may not have the proper immigration status.

This law posesses the possibility to actually increase street level crime in low income areas because it can hinder local law enforcement from being able to investigate these crimes properly.

Please note that I am not saying that illegal immigration is a good thing. Nor am I saying that the Arizona state government is wrong to try to find a way to deal with this real problem. All that I am saying is that they might want to look at a different methodology to attack that problem. This methodology could backfire badly.

Something along the lines of if you are placed under arrest, you have to prove who you are, including legal status to be in this country, before you can be released.

Arrest statistics are examined for evidence of bias, and if there is a spike of arrests on bogus charges based on the race of the individual that would tend to show up.

Watching FOX, I was bombarded with reports and debates from opponents of the bill who were all mentioning that they were going to be subject to racial profiling. It appears this bill has mobilized the left, ala the Tea Party, to generate anger in certain groups.

One misnomer about the local police having to carry the brunt of this bill, is they are not trained in immigration. WRONG!! Local police officers are the most educated law enforcement officials in our country, because they handle every aspect of law in our country. The feds only know “their” specif assignment, and that is why there is so much mis-communication between the federal law enforcement agencies. Our LASD, LAPD, and the other local police agencies in our state are all well versed. They make more contacts with people in our communities than anyone else. When arrest are made, that is when the start of determining someones immigration status.

The State of California passes prop 187 and prop 209 years ago, both of which were overturned despite overwhelming support from Democrats and Republicans. Only the 9th Supreme Court overturned the will of the people in our state. We will see what happens in other states and in Arizona.

What does a pay raise have to do with enforcing illegal immigration and unions. Please explain yourself.

Currently local police contact and arrest 1000’s of illegal immigrants each year in LA County alone. The immigration laws stop there. Only in extreme cases does INS come to local jails and pick up illegal immigrants. That is because people are not arrested for being illegal immigrants. They are arrested for crimes no involving immigration violations. Police officers are not allowed to ask questions about immigration status during booking. It is ignored. If the FEDS start doing their jobs, illegal immigrants can serve their time here, and when their sentence is complete, the INS should pick them up and start deportation process. That would give anyone suspected of being an illegal immigrant enough time to prove otherwise to prep for an immigration hearing. It is not that difficult, but the ACLU and other civil rights groups muddy the water putting fear in politicians. Even Bush was intimidated by immigration.
