Why am I not surprised that Mayor Parris is getting “blasted” by people who probably did not attend last Tuesday’s Council meeting? I was there and I fancy a Mayor that has some anatomy to speak up. Anyone can log onto the city web site and review the meeting. http://www.cityoflancasterca.org/index.aspx?page=570.
Except for Mr. Pelka, all went smoothly until Sileo needlessly forced the “blog” issue at the very end of the meeting. If what was said on the blogs was that important then someone should have addressed it from the floor to the council. I have observed Sileo (as well as everyone else) on the council the past few months and I am not overjoyed. It appears that Sileo often tries to make small matters enormous.
I first noticed this last November with the LaSala issue as Sileo flailed his appendages and threatened Mayor Hearns and the prior council to go to the media after concluding that meeting because of his inability to comprehend what the council was exactly voting on that night. If I am not mistaken, the council finally came to the same agreement that they had originally concurred to two hours earlier at the start of the assembly. I do not appreciate my time being wasted.
Point being Ed, if attacked, it is best if you respond back to where you are attacked from instead of involving everyone else broadcasting it everywhere. If attacked at City Hall respond at City Hall; on the blog then respond through the blog; in the AV Press then respond through the AV Press. Furthermore, it helps to not sway your chair back and forth when speaking because it sends the message that what you have to say is questionable. There was no reason whatsoever to make an issue over a “blog.” Ed, I know you are an intelligent guy and I know you can perform much better. Please take this as constructive feedback.
Apparently, most people who are being critical of our Mayor do so utilizing the local media as their only source to weigh matters. Perhaps, if they start attending the meetings or at least view them on the web they would change their outlook.
Recent letters to the editor are prime examples of critics attacking the Mayor and council by reading about it without being present to get the full story. Lori Kemmuir said Saturday, “Based on Thursday’s article….” Sandra Idleman said Tuesday, “I just read the Valley Press article…” Barbara Brodowsky said Tuesday, “… but that’s how it read in the paper.” Phil Altieri said Tuesday, “If the July 10 Valley Press article was accurate…”
This is the reason why our city is in trouble. Many do not want to really get involved but simply criticize from a distance. I am an in your face kind of guy and plan on jumping into this mess myself. Just so you all know, I am even willing to support Parris who by the way I did not even vote for. Even though one may not always agree or hold a leadership position, mature individuals try to assist those in leadership for a positive outcome. That is true leadership! Had Rodio became Mayor I would probably still be writing this same letter anyway because people just like to complain. Unless these critics start attending the City Council meetings I suggest they reconsider conveying their opinions so loosely through the local media outlets. That being said, if they want someone to attack why don’t they try someone new like me so the Mayor can do his job with less distractions? I can definitely hold my own so bring it on! so would anyone be interested in the fact that Mr. Parris is conducting the city’s business, not out of the City Corporate Offices, i.e., City Hall, but out of his law firm on 10th West & L-4. Isn’t that some small kind of conflict of interest? Also heard an unsubstantiated rumor that he’s charging the city rent for use of his facility. Also noticed a very interesting thing about the “walk with the Mayor.” Other than one time, every other person involved with the city has been “da mayor” for these walks. Ron Smith, Sherry Marquez, now someone from another city department (on city payroll & time) and a couple of other city employees-just not da’ mayor hisself except once. Now all you Rex lovers can come out and bash me as a Rex hater and DBW can blast me on something or other-what fun. what an “enlightened” populace.

Mrs. Zaks I have been to every walk with the Mayor and he has only missed when he is out of town. Right now he is in a trial but flies back for every city council meeting. And, you are a r rex parris hater. You have been writing mean vile things about him since before the election. I hope you are not too upset with me from the article but I just want to level the playing field because the AV Press seems to make it uneven.
I think you can do a lot better and should be doing better than anyone on that council including the Mayor since you have been there the longest now.
You really do have the capability to lead with great influence and I think you should make that your goal even though you may not always agree with Rex.
Leading by example, is exactly what I am trying to do and to get others to do too.
After all, most of the candidates who ran for office and those who are in office all seem to agree that we have a Section 8, crime, and water problems and there is no reason why they all cannot work together to find a solution.

Reading the Valley Press today one can see the majority of the readers and letters to the editor do not support the pompous King and his two court jesters.
Amazing how only three people can actually say they support the king. We know one because he goes to the same church, if thats what it is, a church. The other is paid to say nice things, and we all know why, but then there’s the third one, the ole leg hugger….amazing.
Since when was okay to dictate to the council what they will and will not do? Since when is it okay to condemn elected officials in public because they do not agree? Isnt that whata council does? If we all “hailed the king” with thoughtless progress, what does that makes us?

just a word to Lancaster Nana-aside from you being a Rex apologist, why is telling the truth writing “mean vile things” The facts are the facts-a Los Angeles city attorney filed an ethics compliant against the great Mr. Parris the litigator who apparently doesn’t really really know the law (i.e., Brown Act Violations, etc). Why is reading in the paper that Mr. Smith, Ms. Marquez and now a city employee are doing the “walks with the mayor” and so far, according to news reports, he’s done one and my mentioning it make me a Rex hater? And if it’s okay for him to conduct city business at other than city offices, would it be okay for him to run his law practice out of city hall? I think not and what he’s doing is a definite conflict of interest if not outright illegal. But then, Lancaster Nana, DBW, Bear (Larry Hobson) and 138 Hwy (Billy Bernier) will come on and blast me and say Rex is the second coming. You folks in Lancaster got exactly what you deserve and I still think an appropriate city motto would be, “business as usual and then some.” And btw-why Lancaster Nana do you think I give a rodent’s behind what you have to say when you hide behind a screen name and post anonymously?

Sometimes to straighten things up a strong hand is needed. Putting it right out there on the line gets the action that just may be required to get things moving. People keep attacking Rex for what he did, but wait and see if what he did works, you may be supprised. Mann and Sileo may have just needed a wake up call to move Lancaster in the right direction.
