TRex V 'Da Mayor
Anyone catch today’s paper where TRex and ’Da Mayor Leadbelly are starting to spit at each other over “poaching” of business to their fair cities?
I don’t see what’s the big deal actually.
Lancaster will have three Wally’s Worlds, all the hair and nail places that anyone could want, lots of places to buy slippers, and Palmdale will have real shopping, the mall and decent places to eat.
Sounds like a great division of the old AV shopping dollar to me.

didn’t catch the whole article, but from the headlines, looks like lil rex is asking jim to back off.
is that whats going on?

Basically, but looks like ’Da Mayor Jimbo is out hunting for businesses to move to Palmdale, and if they are in Lancaster…Oh well Too Bad TRex.

I think TRex might think about having one of his body guards have a word with ’Da Mayor…or something like that. Maybe a horses head in his bed or something like that.

Well, uh gee. Rex puts a Wal-mart out in Quartz Hill for the express purpose of drawing Palmdale sales. Do you think the Mayor of Palmdale would just sit back and take it?
Rex needs to learn the laws of cause and effect.

Maybe ‘Da Mayor got his nose out of joint for the new Wally’s World deal, but I think there’s probably more going on that that. Maybe the plans and city $$$ going into improving the Lancaster auto mall. Heck each dealer sells probably $10 Million or more each year, and that’s a lot of sales tax for the city.

Harding Rex Republican—good thinking. But sometimes you have to do what you must do when the boys tell you there are no ifs, ands, or buts. Vose, current Chairman of the Planning Commmission made about $300,000 selling the residentially zoned land to Walmart 3 years ago as a broker. Vose, Chairman of the Planning commission chairs the meeting that approves the rezoning of the land to commercial now. Must be great to be Vose and have a crystal ball to see the future.
Hear there’s a melt down in the Rex camp. Rex tearing into someone at a Runner function at the Cascades Restaurant while the rest of us sit back and watch as the red flows into his face and his eyes probably rolled back in his head all spooky and all. Good thing someone reminded him he was in public and not sitting in his chair at a city council meeting.
One of my comrades also told me a conversation about da Mayor Rex was overhead at Perks (you know the source and author of the Mann ethics violation) thinking ole’ Rex is on edge. They were supposidly Visco-ites.
Maybe the other Titans are thinking ole’ Rex isn’t doing his job the way they need him too. Maybe they think he’s melting down. Nothing like sending Jimbo a letter that came out of a Wheaties Box with a secret decoder ring to make Jimbo’s knees knock. Or better yet, to stop the pressure on Rex from the other Titans.
Paranoia must be setting in for the Rex entourage.
By the way, Bill Parris is having an operation in a few days. SERIOUS OPERATION. He’s been fighting a long battle with cancer and he needs the prayers and support of all. It wouldn’t hurt to PM him and send him your best wishes. That includes Rexy too.

i’m not sure what our mayors prob is.
having seen him in action, there is a arrogance problem that keeps him from listening to anyone including his constituency.
jim, who is not my mayor, but someone i’ve seen speak, and who i’ve spoken to, briefly, appears to have a certain humility that may allow him to ask and recieve more input from others. (i want to point out that i do not know the man), which probably helps make better decisions.

I wonder how much someone would pay to have a date with mayor Rex and vice mayor Smith as a fundraiser for Grace Resources. This way da mayor wouldn’t have to keep spending his own money, and bragging about it, just to keep the poor people from starving. We could throw a bus ticket and bag lunch in the pot for some as well.
Then we can all feel good about this Christmas holiday season knowing the city had done its part.

Captain Jason says...
This is (among other things) fallout from Parris’ power play on the Desert Inn. When Rex unilaterally closed down the Desert Inn, he made clear that business would not be allowed to operate freely. This action, done without due process, rightly scared the hell out of many business owners. In many meetings with various types of business owners, this subject comes up often and is one of several listed causes for many businesses to want to move out of Lancaster. Palmdale, on the other hand, has maintained a very pro-business attitude all along and balanced its growth for different types of businesses to come to that city.
By the way, did anybody else catch this? In the article, Parris says: “…For a restaurant that pays almost no sales tax at all?” This explains why there are so few restaurants of quality in Lancaster; the power brokers won’t be able to glean as much money for the Redevelopment Fund to pirate for their pet projects as they would from, say, a Wal-mart. Parris doesn’t want real amenities for the people of Lancaster, he wants money for himself and his buddies!

Real Steve — mayor Rex is waiting for his bath. Hurry on over. It’s so sad that so many serve him yet are afraid to say so. I think he’s an attractive guy — don’t you. That deep voice. Geeze, I just love it when he looses his cool and yells at people. I get goose bumps.
Real Steve, thank you for opening that closet door, holding my hand, and walking out with me into the light.

Captain Jason – if you can figure this out then don’t you think the city manager and the city attorney can figure it out? And then you have councilman Jeffra walking away disgusted at the end of his term when he once was on their side.
What does that tell you about the entire administration over at Lancaster City Hall?
(

Captain Jason says...
After many conversations with Jim, both during his tenure and since, I can say that he was never ‘on their side,’ per se, but felt that his votes on certain subjects would be an advantage for the people of Lancaster either directly, or indirectly for when he needed support for more directly benefiting projects for the people (such is politics). He was, and remains, an honorable man.

CJ is right. The business community is cautious AT BEST about Rex Parris. His attacks on the Desert Inn, business-friendly City Manager Bob LaSala, and last but not least, his attack on businessowner Ken Mann are indicative of his attitude toward business. It would be interesting to do a Lexis Nexis search and see how many businesses he has sued over the years.
I’m sure once this agreement passes the Palmdale City Council, there will be a giant retail sucking sound from Lancaster to Palmdale.

Palmdale Idiot says...
Ledford takes a restaurant. I wonder what TRex is going to take from Palmdale. He already took the WalMart on the westside. Now Ledford looks like the asshole and he looks like the peacemaker. When he takes a business from Palmdale, I bet it is not going to be a restaurant.
( send private message )
Captain Jason says...
PI; First off, Palmdale is not trying to ‘take’ a restaurant away from Lancaster, the restaurant owners simply want to move away from Lancaster. Palmdale’s city staff have been willing to accomodate them in simply deferring their business permits (they still have to pay them) and helping to connect them to a preexisting vacant location in the city. I believe Ledford and the Palmdale City Council when they say that this is just another Parrisite smokescreen to try to cover their own upcoming misdeed(s) in violation of yet another law (wait and see).
Secondly, I do not believe that Rex has the ability to take any business away from Palmdale at this point. That painful realization may also be one other possible reason why he is making such a stink. If Rex was in a more powerful position (read business friendly), then he wouldn’t be worried so much… If that were the real issue (which I seriously doubt that it is).
In the end, it appears to be just another story of ‘look over there, not here’ that Parris and his cronies have been pulling on a regular basis (and some bloggers have bought). It just makes one sick to watch.

Harding Republican says...
You truly are an idiot Palmdale Idiot. The owner of the restaurant WANTED TO BUILD a restaurant in Lancaster across from Jethawks stadium, but Rex’ lust for land to develop and greed for redevelopment money wouldn’t allow him to part with anything to help him build it.
Your leader’s greed is blinding him from reason.

I think Lancaster has a great idea by turning their downtown space into a mall via closing up Lancaster Blvd. much like what was done down in Santa Monica. With all the ‘vintage’ buildings—it has more character than Palmdale – doesn’t look like a ‘planned city’ like everything else in CA. The ‘powers that be’ just need to get out of their ‘big-box-is-more’ mantra – otherwise they’re just going to destroy the place.
imho!

It was pretty obvious thst Lancaster has been cooking a piracy deal, sounds like an auto dealer, and trying to create a red herring / excuse to justify their actually having violated the piracy policy!

Randy Hall says...
Red Herring in that Jim Ledford blinked first? That’s LOL!
( send private message )
Captain Jason says...
Randy, what do you mean, “Ledford blinked first?” How so?
Seems to me that this is a simple case of a resaurant, with very little sales tax value for Lancaster (according to Parris), decided that they would be better served moving out of Lancaster to Palmdale. The business friendly city staff agreed to give them a short deferment on their business licensing fees (something that they do a lot of, being business friendly) and assisted them to locate an owner of a preexisting location to move to.
This is not a big issue. Or, at least it wasn’t, until Parris started in with his typical egomaniacal concept of the restaurant can’t leave unless he says it can.
No. Even Parris’ ego isn’t that big. There is more at work here. This grandstanding, media-based, attack stinks of a Parrisite smoke screen to deflect attention from a real violation committed by Parris and his cronies before it becomes well known.

Randy Hall says...
“It was pretty obvious thst Lancaster has been cooking a piracy deal…” CJ he said it was Lancaster’s fault. The article was Palmdale considers removal of pirarcy ban. That’s why it’s funny.

Ah, but it is Parris that said that Palmdale was considering the removal of a piracy ban. If you watch the meeting, that was never the issue. Once again, Parris lied… Again.

CJ – There was a time when Lancaster was the one bragging about their new Sheriff’s station, library, Jethawk’s stadium and the dumb as hell Factory Outlet Mall project. It was all during the time when Georgie Runner was first running for the assembly. Old Hearns was running around bragging talking about ‘continue the progress’ when he was up for re-election.
People didn’t realize how much money was being made off of some of those deals — with the rolling over of bonds and who was handling the bonds. Redevelopment dollars were falling from the sky for the Titans.
Rex now has to step up his game to make the Titans happy. It’s not enough to just get these areas re-zoned. Rexy has to steer the efforts in the direction the Titans want and that means not losing anything to Palmdale AND making his E-Solar deal sound important enough to get city dollars. That’s my take. And there’s more deals to come. How many pharmacies do you need? How many Walmarts do you need? How is E-solar going to really be funded when the city doesn’t have the cash? Watch out for something coming down the pipeline……… Palmdale is sniffing something out — and Rex is scared.

Randy — Palmdale didn’t blink first…that’s your interpretation. Palmdale squashed Lancaster like a bug and sent the message — to the victor belong the spoils…the game is on.
That’s not blinking first my brother. That’s announcing the war is on and they think the mayor of Lancaster has people coming out of the woodwork to tear him apart and send him packing.
In other words, Palmdale doesn’t fear Rex and they got in his face and told him so.

That is typical media hyperbole. What Ledford was talking about was that it was an unnecessary agreement, in light of current state law that provides the same guidelines. Besides that, Ledford knows that the Palmdale City Council is not leaning towards doing so anyway, and has said so on more than one occasion. Parris knows that, but, since he is already planning to violate the state law (another law broken), he decided to grandstand on a non-issue first. As usual, Randy, you bought it. I am not surprised, though.

CJ – I disagree with you. Palmdale is interested in dismantling the piracy agreement and all Rex wanted to do was make it look like Jimbo is causing friction and a tightening of the cactus curtain. There are other issues associated with this piracy issue and one keeps creeping up, namely Lancaster wanting to join the two cities. Palmdale wants to put as much distance between itself and Lancaster as possible.

Larry Grover says...
I watched the meeting. There was no motion to rescind it, and they probably couldn’t have acted on that specific issue as thst action wasn’t agendized. It was on for “discussion and direction to staff”. This was effectively an interpretation on the applicability related to a specific business to extend the same type of extended payment plan for permits that is available to many businesses. Ledford opined that it should be resinded, as we had Runner protect us with redundant legislation.
There is significant evidence that Lancaster has been trying to do a work-around to move an auto dealer out of Palmdale for most of the year. This was a great exercise with Rex feigning indignant to make Palmdale appear to be the moving party. Complete BS.

CA powers-that-be are bent on this idea that nobody wants to come here because of the unfriendly high taxes for businesses, which is of course bs. That is, GOP members enforce this dialogue. Ca having the 8th largest economy in the world-now that Swartzi’s been here, b4 it was higher – but RIGHT – there’s no incentive except box store after box store after box store. Easy – and local-paid-for-political-landowners clean up.
Other states are following the same trap CA fell for via free taxes for x-amount of years…so that’s where the corp’s are going now. They’ll leave when their extensions run out.
Californians are the first to realize what a hose job they & the rest of the countries’ been served. The clowns we have for Mayors sniff at reps from the PWD who WENT to Sacramento and tried to get info and create influence that would benefit our area. All Runner does is veto everything—nada there – maybe Knight has a brain? don’t know. Maybe he went to Oz looking for one.
The demand has to come from the voters who elected them. Swartzi’s looking for his legacy…since our deficite is worse than any nightmare Davis could’ve had – maybe it ’s time to hit him up – especially since he let the San Joquine Valley GO DRY.
cool. what else does the GOP have to offer?

As someone who has been around Palmdale / Lancaster politics for 20 plus years, I think Ledford needs to voice whatever concerns he has as they arise.
Most don’t realize that the Titans of Lancaster still want to take over Palmdale. Now and then it comes up and Ledford, the one with the long historical track record has to remind people that Lancaster is SALIVATING to get their fangs on Palmdale.
The Titans want Palmdale’s tax base and other financial tidbits so Ledford now and then throws a bone out there and let’s people like mayor Rex know — he’s no fool. He’s watching them. Give Ledford credit for anticipating that the war drums are still beating beating between Palmdale and Lancaster and the Titans, with mayor Rex at the lead, would ponce on Palmdale in a second if Lancaster could.
