The Big Warm
From the Associated Press:
WASHINGTON (AP) — It’s been so warm in the United States this year, especially in March, that national records weren’t just broken, they were deep-fried.
Temperatures in the lower 48 states were 8.6 degrees above normal for March and 6 degrees higher than average for the first three months of the year, according to calculations by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. That far exceeds the old records.
The magnitude of how unusual the year has been in the U.S. has alarmed some meteorologists who have warned about global warming. One climate scientist said it’s the weather equivalent of a baseball player on steroids, with old records obliterated.
“Everybody has this uneasy feeling. This is weird. This is not good,” said Jerry Meehl, a climate scientist who specializes in extreme weather at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo. “It’s a guilty pleasure. You’re out enjoying this nice March weather, but you know it’s not a good thing.”
It’s not just March.
“It’s been ongoing for several months,” said Jake Crouch, a climate scientist at NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center in Ashville, N.C.
Meteorologists say an unusual confluence of several weather patterns, including La Nina, was the direct cause of the warm start to 2012. While individual events can’t be blamed on global warming, Couch said this is like the extremes that are supposed to get more frequent because of man-made climate change from the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil.
It’s important to note that this unusual winter heat is mostly a North America phenomenon. Much of the rest of the Northern Hemisphere has been cold, said NOAA meteorologist Martin Hoerling.
The first quarter of 2012 broke the January-March record by 1.4 degrees. Usually records are broken by just one- or two-tenths of a degree. U.S. temperature records date to 1895.
The atypical heat goes back even further. The U.S. winter of 2010-2011 was slightly cooler than normal and one of the snowiest in recent years, but after that things started heating up. The summer of 2011 was the second warmest summer on record.
The winter that just ended, which in some places was called the year without winter, was the fourth warmest on record. Since last April, it’s been the hottest 12-month stretch on record, Crouch said.
But the month where the warmth turned especially weird was March.
Normally, March averages 42.5 degrees across the country. This year, the average was 51.1, which is closer to the average for April. Only one other time — in January 2006 — was the country as a whole that much hotter than normal for an entire month.
The “icebox of America,” International Falls, Minn., saw temperatures in the 70s for five days in March, and there were only three days of below zero temperatures all month.
In March, at least 7,775 weather stations across the nation broke daily high temperature records and another 7,517 broke records for night-time heat. Combined, that’s more high temperature records broken in one month than ever before, Crouch said.
“When you look at what’s happened in March this year, it’s beyond unbelievable,” said University of Victoria climate scientist Andrew Weaver.
NOAA climate scientist Gabriel Vecchi compared the increase in weather extremes to baseball players on steroids: You can’t say an individual homer is because of steroids, but they are hit more often and the long-held records for home runs fall.
They seem to be falling far more often because of global warming, said NASA top climate scientist James Hansen. In a paper he submitted to the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and posted on a physics research archive, Hansen shows that heat extremes aren’t just increasing but happening far more often than scientists thought.
What used to be a 1-in-400 hot temperature record is now a 1 in 10 occurrence, essentially 40 times more likely, said Hansen. The warmth in March is an ideal illustration of this, said Hansen, who also has become an activist in fighting fossil fuels.
Weaver, who reviewed the Hansen paper, called it “one of the most stunning examples of evidence of global warming.”
Personally, I’ve always felt the term “global warming” was a misnomer, in the sense that it misleads people to believe that the effects of climate change on weather are uniform.
They are not.
People often confuse climate and weather. As the article points out, other parts of the northern hemisphere have experienced record cold this year. Only a week ago, it was snowing in places in southern Europe that had never seen snow at any time of the year.
Clearly, we are experiencing a climate instability that leads to extreme weather, such as the recent tornadoes in places rarely seen and in unusual times of year.
As with all complex systems, the global climate will attempt to self-regulate over decades, hundreds even thousands of years. But the “new normal” may seem anything but to us.

Brilliant post!!!
Climate on Earth has changed (and done so dramatically) historically since the get-go. And sometimes it’s so extreme that it kills off almost (not all) life forms.
I (like Grumpy) feel that mankind’s contribution is minimal. I think the global warming crowd (Al Gore) is just using it to profit. They are scum-bags.
on the same toke, if nothing else, it has called attention to our polluting ways and we need to make changes. I think we are. But it needs to evolve over time. To force it too fast (Like the Gore crowd our douche bags) has (and will) cause much financial hard times. But using carbon credits and forcing major renovation when large polluting industry’s move, or rebuild is the way to do it. Plus there is a plus factor, when they do convert to non polluting factories, it gives them some good PR that can be used to promote their product. So it can be done if done right.
But, regardless, man’s time at the top of the food chain is numbered.

A couple of winters ago, there were some of the coldest temps recorded with record snow falls around the country.
Do you think the solar activity from the sun has anything to do with the drastic changes. It is easier to blame capitalism and George Bush. I think maybe the heat rising from all of the Occupy Wall Street camps decomposing bodily fluids and trash may be contributing factors to this warm winter.

It is important for the American public to understand that the reators at FUKUSHIMA-DAAIICHI site have generated some the largest concentrations of radioactivity on the planet.
Infastructure to safely remove the radioaactive material was destroyed in all four of the reactors. Spent reactor fuel cannot be simply lifted into the air by a crane. Radiation would kill the crane operators. Fires and explosions would follow.
Based on U.S. Energy Department data, roughly 336 million curies of long-lived radioactivity are stored at the Dai-Ichi site in pools. The National Council on Radiation Protection estimated the site contains nearly half of the total amount of Cs-137 estimated to have been released by ALL atomospheric nuclear weapons testing, Chernobyl, and world wide reproscessing plants combined.
The crisis at FUKUSHIMA-DAIICHI power plants HAS NOT ENDED. It appears that nothing is being done to contain the radiation and contaminated material. American and Japanese meteorologists have predicted a strong earthquake is likely hit that area before the end of this year. A meltdown and unprecedented release of radiation will occur.

Many areas around the globe have recently had their coldest temps ever recorded. That includes Circle Hot Springs, Alaska, Jan 29, 2012, high for the day, -49F breaking a record which stood since 1917. Same day, same place low for the day -58F breaking the old record of -52F set in 1941.
You can find record cold temps in other countries/continents, but yes, in the lower 48 temps have been high.

How do we explain the fact that polar bears, seals & walruses in Alaska are losing their fur, and are contacting skin lesions? Could be because of Fukushima, as HG points out, or the toxic residual waste from the nuke plants blowing up in Japan, or it could be the drill drill drill fracking going on — or they could just have some paleolithic-autoimmune disease caused by the icebergs melting from extreme warming.
The iceburgs are not melting Roxi, you can relax. These clowns were saying in the 1970s we were heading for an ice age. If you would read the books and dissertations these people write, you will find that the global warming hoax is about control. Everything going on today is about control. Slowly they implement technology that allows invasive spying and dictatorial control over our lives. I am all for protecting the environment, who wouldn’t be? However the rich money men who own and control vast amounts of the nations wealth have hijacked the green movement and are using it to attempt ridiculous taxes and restrictions. Taxes that will be paid to corporations they own for carbon credits.
Being a good demecrat doesn’t mean being a SAP for everything they push. You gotta think for yourself and look for alternate views than media feeds you. They keep you in a box.
Remember that wonderful picture of stranded polar bears on an ice floe that were used by folks like soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore to demonstrate how dire the man-made global warming issue is?
Well, ABC television in Australia, on a show called “Media Watch,” recently debunked the entire issue (video available here, h/t NB member dscott).
It turns out — as NewBuster Jake Gontesky reported on March 20 — the picture was taken in August, “when every year the fringes of the Arctic ice cap melt regardless of the wider effects of global warming.”
The photographer, Australian marine biology student Amanda Byrd, didn’t think the bears were in any jeopardy:
They did not appear to be in danger…I did not see the bears get on the ice, and I did not see them get off. I cannot say either way if they were stranded or not.

Highground is absolutely correct about the reactors. Of course this all follows a plan laid out over years by politicians and medical “experts” who adhere to eugenics. Eugenics is where Hitler got his ideas about a super race and extermination of people. Population control…The birth Control League…Margaret Sanger. For crying out loud TIME magazine had Hitler as Man of the Year. People think those men of power back then just went away? Heck no, they or their families still run their dynasties. How many cancers over the next 10-20 years will we see?
They say there is a rise in head and neck cancer and blame dentistry. Think for a minute, 10-20 years ago what changed about dentistry? Nothing. But what did change were people using cell phones. Holding them right up to their head next to their neck. How about the rise in autism? Go back to when it started and look for societal change. Vaccines were pushed.
We are being poisoned and as you try to avoid the poison they outlaw and restrict your way around it.

Highground is not “absolutely correct”. You can check radiation levels in your region by going here:
http://radiationnetwork.com/index.htm
This site will give you radiation counts in your region down to the very second you click on it.
One problem Matt…The government raised the acceptable levels of radiation in some cases over 1000% AFTER Fukishima and the radiation started hitting our coasts. Likewise as people in Japan panicked and worried their government also raised the acceptable amount of radiation. So you see Matt, the site your looking at is basing there danger levels on the new levels set by the government. This is multiple times worse than Chernobyl and look at the impact it had.

Matt says,
If there were an organised attempt by the “elite” to decimate the population, why would they be stupid enough to use radiation, which would effectively kill them off as well?
Matt their are drugs to detoxify radiation as well as help prevent it.
Remember they had the Stealth Bomber in the 1960-70s but we didn’t know until the 1980-90s. They are 20-30 years ahead in technology from what the let us in on. They can create race specific bio weapons too. AIDS is one such disease. It is much easier for a black or Mexican to contract it than say a blonde haired Sweed. Don’t be ignorant Matt. If they would ship guns to Mexico so they could show on the news the violence associated with guns, then they would surely kill off the “useless eaters”. Remember Tuskegee? How about testing upper atmospheric nuclear detonations? They didn’t know what would happen and many scientists feared we would ignite our own atmosphere destroying all earth life. Yet they went ahead and tested it. THEY are crazy. They do not care about human life. The spirits they harbor are hostile to human life. This has a spiritual element to it.

From the Washington Times:
Genetic Trait Boosts AIDS Risks in Blacks
By Randy Dotinga
HealthDay Reporter
Wednesday, July 16, 2008; 12:00 AM
WEDNESDAY, July 16 (HealthDay News) — New research suggests that people of African descent are much more likely to have a genetic trait that makes them more susceptible to infection with the HIV virus.
Scientists estimate that the trait — which also provides protection against a form of malaria — might account for 11 percent of the HIV cases in Africa, the continent hardest hit by the AIDS epidemic.
Overall, the finding shows how the past history of evolution and disease still affects people today, said study co-author Matthew J. Dolan, of the Wilford Hall United States Air Force Medical Center and San Antonio Military Medical Center. “The benefit that the Africans got from a mutation that gave them some resistance to malaria has, statistically at least, rendered them some increased susceptibility to HIV,” he said.
Researchers have spent years trying to understand why some people who are exposed to the AIDS virus don’t get infected. An estimated 70 percent to 90 percent of children born to infected mothers don’t develop the disease, and some gay men have avoided it despite repeated exposure. In the new study, a team of researchers studied more than 1,200 members of the U.S. military who became infected with HIV. They wanted to discover more about how genetics affects the disease.
The findings were published in the July 17 issue ofCell Host & Microbe.
The researchers found that a genetic trait — found in 60 percent of African-Americans and 90 percent of Africans — makes HIV infection 40 percent more likely. The trait is virtually nonexistent in whites.
Here is another article but if you simply google it you can read from dozens.

avbornbred I found the statistics on HIV/AIDs quite interesting, you were more likely to catch it if you were a gay drug needle addict from Haiti of hispanic race.
It spread from primates and felines dur to our contact with those species. Primate (green mokey’s from africa) were hunted by the natives who carried their bodies and if infected and if the native had opened wounds etc is how it tranfered (jumped)species to us. Gay males (and bi-sexuals) helped spread it to the extent it was pandemic because of the variety of sexual partners.Well documented by science, but thats how they assumed AIDs/HIV jumped from one species to another.
See what having an inquiring mind does?

Spring storm season has only just begun
Dear Ray,
This spring, dozens of tornadoes have ripped through communities across the South and Midwestern states, leveling towns and leaving thousands of people with nothing left. And they aren’t the only ones. Early season wildfires in the Western U.S. forced hundreds of evacuations, while severe flooding caused extensive damage and loss across Texas, Louisiana, West Virginia and Hawaii.
Every nine minutes, another family suffers tragic loss from a tornado, house fire, or other disaster.
When a family can only take cover and hope for the best, as a raging tornado rips their home to splintered wood and broken glass, it’s hard to feel like life will ever be normal again.
Your gift enables the Red Cross to prepare for and provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance in response to disasters.
With shattered glass and broken furniture scattered through homes, and fallen trees still blocking roadways, many families are still coping even weeks after a disaster like a tornado, a flood, wildfires or an earthquake. It’s a sizable challenge to meet their needs, from continual hot meals to emotional support – so we need people who aren’t afraid to jump in and do whatever it takes to stand with us. Simply put, we need you.
Right now there’s a family wondering where they’ll sleep tonight, what they’ll wear tomorrow, and how they’ll ever recover from the disaster that destroyed their home. They need a helping hand – and with your support, they’ll get it.
Sincerely,
Charley Shimanski
Sr. Vice President, Disaster Services
American Red Cross
P.S. We can’t predict how destructive this year will be, but we need to be ready for the worst. Thank you for your consideration.

Good comment, Ray. Climate is changing, all of us old timers recognize that, overall, most temperate areas are a bit warmer than when we were kids. It’s most noticeable in borderline snow areas where in the past you typically got 2 or 3 decent snows in a winter you now get one only every couple of years.
What gets lost in the global warming hoo-ha is that extreme global climate change is a natural cyclic thing, and while humans may be accelerating the current upswing it would be happening even if we didn’t exist, an no way can we “stop” it.
Question is, how much will our activities add to this cycle’s peak? While some people claim to know, they really are making guesses based on assumptions, because the fact is we really don’t know the cause(s) of this natural process.
