Restoring Honor LIVE
ON CSPAN 1
Hope everyone watches
No Spin says...
Hope everyone is watching with hearts and minds open, putting differences aside for a couple of hours and simply celebrating the FACT that this is the greatest country in the world and each of us are blessed to be allowed to live here..

Thanks, I didn’t know it was on TV. Much easier than the computer. My kids are all crowded up on my desk. LOL

You come in here and FIRST salvo is a shot at FOX. Come on Skye..back off.
This event is not about FOX, CNN, MSNBC, etc..
I ask again that you refrain…
BTW: Thought the opening prayer was a little over the top… JMHO
(

whomeye says...
Me too. People in my church don’t pray like that, a little extreme for me.
( send private message )
No Spin says...
There was a sign in the background of the speakers in the beginning, which I could not read because they blurred it out, but now it is gone.. GOOD for them

Would love to know what the CSPAN numbers are..

I watched for a while, it was boring to tell the truth. Fine that 250,000+ people are there and all that, but too much of the bible tumping for me.
(

No Spin says...
Tony LaRussa on now..not Bible Thumping at all..
The tributes to the Military, not Bible Thumping at all…
JMHO
(

RealSteve says...
OK No Spin, the tributes to the military aren’t Bible Thumping, but about 90 percent of the rest is, and damn long winded speakers too.

Who would have thought that words like, God, Christ, and church would make so many uncomfortable; yet Obama’s words don’t?
I’m far more uncomfortable with Rev. Wright than this.

RealSteve says...

Don’t mistake uncomfortable with not interested. Free speech and all that.
(

whomeye says...
Well if it’s so boring, then perhaps the liberal lefties will stay quiet. LOL
( send private message )
No Spin says...
90 percent RS?? wow… what version are you watching?
I too think that toning down the GOD talk would not be a bad idea, but the last 2 speakers have taken a much different path to walk..
(

whomeye says...
Maybe if they’d said God Dam* America that’ll be ok with everyone. LOL
( send private message )

I actually would have loved it if it were political like his shows, I do need a little laugher since I’m so tired.

I stopped watching so I’ll take your word for the revival aspects of the show being toned down.
Don’t care if the Libs don’t like this or not, if they don’t want to watch, turn the channel, I did. People want to have their revival under the doctrine of free speech, knock yourself out.
By the way, evangelical Republicans aren’t all that happy with Beck as he’s a ***gasp*** Mormon. There will be mumbling coming from the Mega Church crowd coming soon.
(

Randy Hall says...
How can you have honor without a higher power to bestow it?
( send private message )
whomeye says...
RS, I know several people from that Mega Church watching right now.
( send private message )
No Spin says...
RS
Say what you will about Beck, but you cannot dismiss the FACT that he was able to gather hundreds of thousands of Americans in one place on warm Saturday afternoon in Washington DC..
You cannot dismiss the FACT that millions are watching on TV and the Internet and listening on radio..
Say what you will about the Man and the messages spoken today, but try not to forget what a tremendous accomplishment this is.. THIS IS AMERICA at it’s best..
(

)
RealSteve says...
Randy
But who’s higher power?
Yours, Obama’s, Pasta?
This country was founded on both the freedom of and from religion and intolerance based on religious doctrines.
(

RealSteve says...

I support the right for Beck to do and say what ever he wishes to do. Am I required to agree with everything he says or does? Is the Christian Taliban going to get me if I don’t?
(
send private message
)
whomeye says...
Maybe some of you guys fail to realize that religion was a part of our history. Just look at all the places that have the word “God” on it, including D.C.
I do wish Beck had spoken more, like now.
(

whomeye says...
msnbc says only 10’s of thousands of people are there. LOL

Not at all… there is no such requirement..

I choose today to celebrate the blessings this country has provided me and my family.
I choose today to embrace the glory of what I can do and feel as an American.
I choose today to not argue with those I disagree with.
I choose to smile today and not frown.
I choose today to simply be a father, an Uncle, a brother, a husband, a Grandfather and an American.
We all can choose today to be who we want to be.
It is our choice.
(

)
RealSteve says...

I choose Liberty and Freedom
Freedom to worship or not worship
Liberty to speak, and support of those who speak when I disagree with what they have to say.
I choose today to celebrate diversity, individuality and freedom to think for ones self.
I celebrate Glen Beck and Al Sharpton speaking and being right and wrong all at the same time.

Ray Cunneff says...
I missed the first fifteen minutes or so until I found it on C-Span, then watched it in its entirety.
Overall, I’d have to say it was a very positive, even uplifting, event. As promised, it was for the most part a non-political, non-partisan, call for unity. And who can object to that?
To the extent that it was a patriotic salute to our country and the men and women in our armed forces, past and present, I applaud it. To the extent that it was a religious revival meeting, I am less comfortable with it.
But those concerns would are relatively minor quibbles that seem inappropriate at this moment. It will be interesting to see what people (and the media) take from this. There were many messages, not all of them easy ones. I need some time to digest it all before saying more…
(
send private message
)
No Spin says...
I agree with Ray..
Too much God for my taste, but I am ok with it…
Non Violent positive messages, and everyone there seemed invested..
KUDOS to all who managed this event..
Trying to see bites from Sharpton’s rally too but cannot find..
(
send private message
)
whomeye says...
What I found intriguing is that Beck was able to bring together different faiths there being that he is Mormon. Now that being said, I wish it could have been a little less focus on religion so more people that do have a little more in common would have listened so they could understand the real intent of this gathering, FAITH, HOPE,CHARITY AND RESTORING HONOR.

Ray Cunneff says...
There is one thing that bothered me that I’ll mention right now (at the risk of injecting anything negative).
I do NOT like to see the American flag altered in any way. Throughout, behind the podium, someone was waving a large American flag with a yellow logo in the center. I can’t say for certain (it was in soft focus), but it appeared to be the “don’t tread on me” coiled snake against a yellow background. I have no problem with that symbol by itself, but I believe it is considered a desecration of our flag to modify it in any way.
(
send private message
)
No Spin says...
I hated that too RAY… I was watching because at the very beginning there was a sign behind the speakers which was not obvious later… then the flag showed up..
( send private message )
RealSteve says...
Ray
Why do I think that if the yellow logo had been a rainbow symbol or a Obama riding a Unicorn you would not be so upset?
(
send private message
)
No Spin says...
I also have to wonder why the Sharpton rally could not have been combined with this one? Seems a natural fit to me..
( send private message )
No Spin says...
RS
I am guessing he would have been just as disturbed..
Ray is a vet and has constantly been a beacon of patriotism in here…
(

Ray Cunneff says...
I would object to our flag being altered IN ANY WAY.

That was THE most inspirational event EVER!!! That was awesome. It’s gonna take some time and some hard work…but we can do it. This (to me) should seem a little Bitter-Sweet to some “politicalites”. Seeing as though we are (as a people) waking up to the fact that we need to get more of an Austrian type of Capitalism i.e. less government (funding and personnel), and more private manufacturing, producing, saving, trading and creating.

I thought it had just the right amount of God, politics, and motivational content. It was a reflection of America, herself (or at least in my view, what she stands for). God comes first and foremost. He also touched on charity, and how it needs to be shown through the family, which is SPOT RIGHT ON. Once you and your family are working hard, and producing and earning EVERYTHING you need to survive and even thrive, our country will be able to continue the worldy social advancements that we have created. We ned to wake up, get off the couch, and get back to work (and play) OUTSIDE IN THE REAL WORLD.
( send private message )
No Spin says...
American
Though I agree the event was amazing, I do not agree with your analysis of what the wake up call will be..
TO me.. it was all about being an American again…accepting the FACT that this country is cemented in faith and the cement is beginning to erode..
Time the restore America.. Time to celebrate faith, even if yours has been tarnished, in what makes this Country great..

So are we gonna take this motivational seed and sprout it, or what?!?! Let’s all agree in here to start trying to compete with Wal-Mart on something, just one product, or a private baseball or sports club team for the youth. In the Private Sector. An organic farm. Whatever. Can we do it. Or is this just another waste of some human spirits

How about a Private Investigation into the firebombings? We can figure out a way alongside partnership with the churches on how to catch these guys.

Out of curiosity, does Sharpton every year on this day put together a rally to honor MLK’s speech or only today because he wanted the limelight due to Becks popularity? Just curious…

Leave it to the lefty AP to inject race and create division, this stuff just burns me up!
“AP – Conservative commentator Glenn Beck and tea party champion Sarah Palin appealed Saturday to a vast, predominantly white crowd on the National Mall to help restore traditional American values and honor Martin Luther King’s message. Civil rights leaders who accused the group of hijacking King’s legacy held their own rally and march.”
Will someone from the left please tell me if Sharpton has EVER held a yearly rally honoring MLK and why now, today if not.

MLK’s KIN was there with Glenn Beck and the racist lanslither (STILL) brings up racism. He/she/it would find racism in a ham sandwich. Since the niece is intelligent and well spoken, me guess she “too” is an uncle tom.

I still haven’t received an answer about Al Sharpton and any previous MLK rallies.

AP: “…predominantly white crowd.”
That’s a stretch even for race baiting. In a country where 70% of it’s citizens are white, to say a crowd was perdominantly white is just an attack.
The Ap writer is predominantly spineless.
(

whyomeye: “Why is it that the AP didn’t write that Sharpton’s gathering was predominantly black?”

Nope, let me tell you the REAL answer! Sharpton didn’t like Beck’s attention, he put a rally up so cameras would be focused on him. Sharpton is nothing more than an opportunist. You lefties can’t admit that because you’ll NEVER put any people in your party down, soooo sad…
If Sharpton cares anything about MLK, he’d have yearly rallies in his honor, becaue as you could see; people DID show up for him yesterday.

NS Ever ponder this? Why should certain segments of this society even work in the first place?
5 to 6 children gets ya major welfare goodies, and do not forget WIC. Earn under a certain level of income and “hooray!!!”, section 8 house or apartment and you only pay 30% of the rent. This is a big savings, thus then ya can afford the Caddie Escalade with “spinner” rims.
Are you an illegal alien? Forget about acquiring that stupid “citizenship.” Why should you? Being illegal means free prescriptions, (no co-pay), and a free heart transplant if ya need one. Want free eye glasses and/or free dental? Yes, you say? Sorry…You must be “poor” and earn under “that certain income” to qualify.
Can my kids have free milk or lunches at school? Yup!! Just don’t have a job and claim poverty and the child goes to the front of the line.
Question becomes….Who are the suckers?
People who work? I guess so!
Who are the winners? We know that already with the likes of lanslither, rockhead, cineff, sky, etal. Because they “know” how to rip off the system from 50-60 years of practice.

Any wonder why this state and the country is headed towards bankruptcy?

Honor restored means having someone pay your mortgage because you wanted more house than you can afford.
Actually restore honor means knowing that we were looted by others so they could live in a bigger house than they can afford and we are called selfish.
Restored honor means tossing your neighbor on the grenade rolled into the room to save yourself.
America a land of honorable people.
Insert something pithey here to show my sarcasm.

Obama says he ignored Beck rally
Obama briefly touched on several issues in a wide-ranging 20-minute interview, which took place under umbrellas in the New Orleans rain. He said he remained confident in his administration’s policies in Iraq and Afghanistan — the topic of his scheduled nationally televised address Tuesday night — and he urged Americans to have patience with the economic recovery

Was the Restoring Honor Rally the Biggest Ever in DC?
Andrew Thomas
Glenn Beck remarked during the 8-28 “Restoring Honor” rally that he believed this was the largest attended private event in Washington DC history.
My wife and I attended both the 9-12 March on Washington in 2009 and this past weekend’s 8-28 rally. From my subjective analysis, I believe it can be shown that the attendance at the Glenn Beck rally was roughly equivalent to the 9-12 march, which was estimated to be approximately 1.5 million people. It is possible that the 8-28 rally had the potential to be even bigger.
All DC hotels were sold out during both of these events. On neither of these dates were there any other large events taking place which would have significantly competed for hotel space (other than Al Sharpton’s gathering of 3,000 people on 8-28, who I am assuming were mostly locals).
