It happened while he was speaking in Lancaster. Shows you what happens when you cross the cactus curtain.
But seriously, I wish him well. He is a great guy and a better Mayor.

Sorry to hear about Jimbo – hope he recovers just fine. One thing about the hospitals up here, they have A+ heart surgery theaters.
There should be a disclaimer when people sign up for public service up here, considering what’s now happened to PK, Parris, S. Runner, and now Ledford.

Well, I’m not into any religion, so to me prayer is useless. However, if the situation was reversed, yes he would. We get along real well with each other. When I cover Palmdale press briefings, he always welcomes me with open arms. Unlike the ‘other’ city to the north. (Though, believe it or not, Sherry Marquez was always very friendly with me and, she too, welcomed me with open arms (even with the bad things I say about her (in a satirical manner, of course.
If you had ever meant with the Mayor, you would find him a very friendly and likeable guy who cares about the people of Palmdale. If I felt that prayer would work, then I would do so. But I do wish him all the best.
An Update just came out and the heart attack was worse than they first expected. It’s a 7.5 on a scale of 10. But he’s in good hands and the feeling is he will make a full recovery.

If it’s a 7.5, then it may have been going on for a couple of days. First symptom of someone having a heart attack is denial.
My prayers and positive thoughts are with Ledford and his family. Many people have gone on to live very productive lives after going through such an event as this. It’s just limited, because the heart has been damaged.

Jim Ledford is a great guy I will pray for him to get well. I talked to Jim Ledford a couple of times when he showed up at Thunder on the Lot. Its too bad someone like cyberidiot to make such an uncalled for comment in Ledford’s case.

Heard on the news (ABC7) that Ledford will be in the ICU for a couple of days. Those who have had such events tell me he’ll be fine – we all hope so.

Jim Ledford was a down to earth type of person who was not afraid to dress as a clown or cowboy in order to make an event better. He always showed up at fund raisers to help others, one of the finest people I have ever met. I hope each and everyone of you prays for him until he recovers.

I agree. I meet with him every few weeks and he cares for the people of Palmdale and he represents them. We need more politicians like him.

Cyberfool the man is sick and needs our prayers, no one forced you to make a comment on your atheistist veiw which I am sure that no one else wants to hear. Yet again you degrade aby post with your vile disgusting attacks. BTW how is the unemployment line treating you. You should be happy now that you can live off the dole and handouts just like your entitlement class thinking.I heard about how all you wanted was a way to stop working and sponge off the taxpayer.

From John Mylnar:
There will be a prayer vigil for Mayor Ledford on Wednesday, May 30 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at the Gazebo in Poncitlan Square, across from Palmdale City Hall. Your good thoughts, prayers and positivity will be appreciated!

I understood that Jim was doing well. A prayer vigil sounds a bit more serious, but I shouldn’t read too much into it. Regardless, I’ll be there.

Obviously, the Vultures are circling the host, planning their next opportunity. Yes, we will all pray for our Mayor, but a spectacular mission of faith in the multitudes is only posturing.

With all of that having been said, I’m willing to wager that, rather than their usual standing rib, turkey will be the main entree on the Ledford family’s Christmas dinner menu this year and all subsequent years. Yes, one can only hope that Jim’s red meat-eating days are behind him.
_________________
Cyber, get a grip! You know that heart attack patients totally ignore their doctors orders and still eat red meat. The prescription is no red meat, but if you’re going to eat it, eat it in moderation – like Christmas.
Red meat isn’t the only cause of blockage, it also includes family history, junk food, eating the wrong fats (restaurant food with tons of salt) lack of exercise, which Ledford is not guilty of = and stress.

Cybertariat,
You left something out of AVTC’s post. He said, “I’m not into any religion, so to me prayer is useless”.
He wasn’t being disrespectful to those that do pray. He was making it clear that it was useless for him.
“Yes, one can only hope that Jim’s red meat-eating days are behind him.”
Sounds like you’re a bit jealous of the attention Ledford is receiving. You must be suffering to some degree also.
Are you ok?

I’m with AVTC on this, I don’t pray, don’t even really believe in it. But if there’s any chance it might help Jim, I’ll give it a shot. How can it hurt?

Marino Cyberbully is suffering alright, no telling what diseases he has picked up and from what. I was reading about how Mao’s red guard and other idiots who destroyed countless cultural and archaeological treasures, broke doctor’s fingers and made teachers wear dunce hats.

What about people who gave experienced near death experiences? There have been numerous accounts of people watching over their own deaths. There is an afterlife or all those people are just nuts. The life changes for those who experienced near death experiences shows they has life altering experiences when recovering.
As for “Last Rights,” it is comforting for those who know death is near.

“What about people who gave experienced near death experiences?”
I had one of those when I nearly choked to death about a dozen years ago. I found it to be very peaceful. I could go into more detail, but it would take too long. But suffice it to say that I don’t think death is a negative experience. Then again, I wasn’t dead long enough to know as I got the boot and sent back here. maybe this is hell and this is the punishment for my sins.
But in the case of Mayor Ledford if prayer works for you, by all means. In my case, I send positive vibes of well being from my heart. You will never find a better man for Mayor than Jim Ledford. For that, I hope he pulls through and can continue on.
As for red meat, I don’t know if that played any roll. Sometimes it’s just your body chemistry. But, it just goes to show that we are all mortal.
I think this should be a warning for the young people (kids) who are overweight (something like 60%) and are already suffering from high cholesterol, etc. This is going to have serious ramifications in the next decade or two.

Many of those people who see their own deaths and move into another dimension and interact spiritually with their higher power or beings of light or deceased relatives and then they often come back to tell about it.
Many of them also begin to reject organised religion because their time in that other dimension was sufficient enough to debunk many of its claims. They often will say that they are “more spiritual and less religious” than before.
I find that very telling, in a sense.

It is nothing short of tragically amazing that in the 21st century a huge percentage of humanity is still stupid enough to cling to the irrational – indeed the psychotic notion that a little man in the sky listens to the “prayers” of billions of human beings, all but simultaneously, and then decides as to whether not to grant the wishes within those billions of “prayers.”
Carl Sagan was correct, “Religious beliefs are completely incompatible with the demands of technologically advanced societies.”
May the lot of you knee-jerk to the contentment of your superstitious hearts.
Persevere.
Good day.

What’s really important is that Jim’s friends and admirers turn out this evening 6:30 – 7:30 at the Gazebo in Poncitlan Square (across from City Hall) – whether you pray or not.

Guy you could of voiced your opinion without calling people stupid. Those words are the type of things that ultimatly start trouble.Your words are meant to do nothing more than to insult others that do not agree with you.A man as smart as you and with your writing ability certainly could find kinder words for those on the other side of a issue.

Cybertariat says...
I do not relish having to refer to others as being stupid, Martel, but what else I am to think of people who actually believe that this thing called “God” listens to them whilst they are speaking to themselves and that this “God” creature then decides whether or not to grant the wishes – the “prayers” – of these individuals?
I am terribly sorry, Martel, but “extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof” of which there exists no amount of with respect to the idiocy known as prayer.
Good day.

I think the problem many have with abiding to a faith that requires total obedience to that dogma is that in the real world, there is so much injustice – one is bound to ask: Where IS ‘the just God’?
Take Mr. Ledford for instance. Ledford has proven to be a very dedicated and caring Mayor, who is admired by many from both sides of the aisle — yet has lost, if the reports are true, 2/3rds of his hearts’ capacity, due to being who he is.
Then we have people like Dick Chaney, an advocate for war, oppression and political division, is from the same POLITICAL party, btw; who gets away with murder (or shooting someone in the face), yet is never called on for the misery he has caused.
He gets A+ surgery for a heart transplant via the taxpayer’s dime, and continues on with his hatred.
Where’s the justice? Where’s the justice with the young man gunned down in front of his home in Lancaster, after serving 2 tours of duty in Iraq & Afghanistan?
Some prefer to hold on to their blind faith, and that’s fine. Other’s question the validity of a higher being in the image of themselves – a man/or woman.
It’s what a person has done on this earth that matters, not what they’ll eventually do in the afterlife.
Some value character and ‘good deeds’ towards their fellow man more than rewarding a spiritual advisor in the heavens.

i agree with you in that we need to respect others who disagree. Disagreements are fine, but that’s all it is. In my life, I have never had friends whom I agreed with (especially politically). We have some hot arguments. But when it’s done, it’s done and we’re still close friends.
While I don’t believe in religion or their concept of God, American was founded on freedom to practice (or not)the religion of your choice. I would take a bullet to the heart to stand for your right to practice your religion.
While I may disagree with a lot of people on issues, I don’t think they (or you) are stupid. the proof is that we are debating these subjects, stupid people don’t.
I do not believe anyone who has posted on this site is stupid (though I may think their opinions are, sometimes).

In participating in, for example, dinner table prayers with believers, my attitude is that I appreciate the positive thoughts expressed, and it’s a courtesy to them.
Unless, of course, they start praying that God smite someone they don’t like. Fortunately, I don’t have any friends like that.

The gathering last evening at Poncitlan Square on behalf of Jim Ledford was both impressive and moving. While I’m not personally the ‘prayed vigil’ sort, the emotions were genuine and heartfelt.
The shock of nearly losing our mayor (and it was apparently a near thing) combined with the joy of knowing he’s now doing well made for a remarkable event.

Ray Cunneff: “While I’m not the ‘prayer vigil’ sort, the emotions were genuine and heartfelt.”
Yes, the time spent in prayer may well provide comfort to the religious because they believe that their efforts are somehow effectual, be it for the “benefit” of others, such as Jim Ledford, or for personal reasons, but the fact of the matter is that prayer amounts to nothing more than talking to oneself. If ones prayers are never told to another person, then any and all of the so-called results of their “prayers” are strictly coincidental, for “prayer” in and of itself changes absolutely nothing. It is but a placebo that has the same effect as, say, a sugar pill that has been sold as a diet drug. Short of a proper diet, exercise and resistance training, such a sugar pill is utterly worthless. And the same holds true for so-called prayer: without physical action there is absolutely nothing that anyone can do for someone else.
In brief, “prayer” is a gigantic waste of time – time that could otherwise be put to productive use.
Persevere.

One thing to be said about the ‘placebo effect’ – it has been proven to work. Whether it’s religious faith or some other form of belief, Psychology Today calls it “a kind of mental magic trick that has been shown to boost immunity and alleviate pain, even if you know it’s all in your head”.
