those evil skaters on the BLVD.
Yep they complained their head off at the Lancaster council meeting Tuesday night, then Fran over at av news website made them out to be drug addicts and sex whores, dang Fran, you would think every kid skate boarding was a horrible kid. I’m sure that’s not the case though, have you had a bad run in with skate boarders on the BLVD? Let me know.

they also blamed the skateboard shop that replaced the art gallery that shut down. I wonder why some of the artist left?

Skateboarding is not a crime! These kids could be doing all sorts of crimes like tagging or robbing. Instead they choose to do something healthy and if they are good, entertaining. I think there are way too many suits in jobs like government or media. These stiffs need to go. They are plastic people who go along to get along and get their paychecks. The status quo has got to go.

Skateboarding may not be a crime but trespassing, lewd conduct, vandalism, public urination and defecation and loitering are. I have visited people at the Artists Lofts and all of these HAVE happened. Some of the trespassers have made their way onto the roof and have been seen peering into the apartments through the skylights. There is a park one half block away where the skaters can go but they choose to congregate sometimes as many 30 to 40 in front of the the Pharmacy skate shop loitering and blocking the sidewalk. I don’t blame the skate shop itself but it has it’s share of responsibility to police the loitering outside it’s doors the same way a convenience store has to deal with drunks, loiterers and panhandlers.

And the tresspassers on the roof happen to have skateboards so all skateboarders must be like them. Why not just say the scumbag loiterers. Skateboarding is an original extreme sport and very entertaining to watch. They level of fitness it takes to skate is akin to a basketball player. Alot of cardio involved. I do not condone the behavior of those you describe, but I do not fault skaters as a whole. Those you describe give skating a bad name. I thought loitering was a crime anyway. If so, it is the police who need to enforce it not the skate shop owner.

There is a crime, it is called disturbing the peace. Another one is impeding traffic on sidewalks, and vandalism, damaging public property by riding curbs and benches on the Blvd.

Skateboarding in itself is not a crime, but some of the little bastards on them skate and cause problems.

AVB
you’re right.

We don’t need any more stinking laws that restrict more and more of our civil liberties. Enforce the ones that you already have on the books.

Another approach would be to come up with some form of compromise for the good kids and then nail the bad ones for the crimes that they commit.

Perhaps they can take some of the money that had been allocated for the ill-advised roundabout and build a skateboard park at Heroes Park, which is just a block off Da BLVD.

Downtown LA has a wonderful way of handling problems like this…they hire saavy, classy, motivated people, dress them up in purple polo shirts and khaki pants and let them roam city streets in an organized fashion. They actually serve more of a purpose to all the citizens, such as giving out directions, advising people of upcoming city sponsored events, deter panhandlers, petty criminals, graffiti artists (just by being present) pick up trash, they know which bus lines connect to other bus lines, and they are truly knowledgeable about all things LA. I’ve seen them be truly helpful to senior citizens and foreign visitors among so many others “in need”. People know if they have questions they gotta find find someone dressed in purple. Its LA City P.R. at its best and it works.

Positive promotion of the boulevard needs to continue if its going to thrive. People see sheriffs and they automatically think its unsafe. It is Lancaster after all.

This issue is actually a very complex issue that involved both public and private matters.
The whole issue with the Artists and Pharmacy in the lofts Gallery is a private matter between the tenants and landlord. The Artists were given notice that they had to occupy the gallery in 45 days and failed to comply so the space was rented out. Tenant/landlord issue and not a matter to be brought up at a council meeting.

Calling out the “skateboarders” is like everyone else here calling out the “car drivers” for making parking difficult to find on the BLVD. Parking is not a crime and neither is skateboarding.
Specifically the problem with loitering, trespassing and the other crimes that are being committed throughout the whole of the BLVD is not exclusive to the Artists Lofts. There is an element of youth that are not customers of any businesses on or around the BLVD, but live in the area and commit the vast majority of the problems. These people are vigilante youth that play on the BLVD like it’s their own gang playground. They fight, yell, cuss, intimidate the public, deal in drugs, underage prostitution and do all sorts of socially unacceptable things all the way from Movies 12 to Sierra Highway.

Building a skateboard park will have ZERO impact on the activity of this element of people. Some just happen to skateboard, but the majority are just out to be up to no good. The only solution is to have a multifaceted plan to address the loitering through business watch, active crowd control and security and/or sheriff foot patrol.

I’m curious…there’s a Powder & Sun in Palmdale at the mall that doesn’t seem to have all the problems that this particular Pharmacy skateshop does. And, Pharmacy used to be located in Palmdale over by the old WalMart that never had these problems. I live in QH, very close to Lane Park where skateborders utilize a parking lot for their activites that doesn’t have anywhere near these types of problems.

What’s really the issue here? So much stuff happening within striking distance of the Sheriff’s Department…really? I just find it hard to believe. Did anyone have videotape?

Probably because the Blvd is the garden spot of Klancaster. The little bastards frequent the Blvd during events, use foul language, and bring a negative light to a nice place. If the retards could control their foul mouths and not violate other peoples right to have a nice time, they put tbe targets on their own backs.

Is it your position, moondevil, that all of those who skateboard on Lancaster Boulevard engage in antisocial behavior?
Thank you.

Before moving, my wife and I would go to the Thursday Farmers Market. More than once, skateboarders would be loitering in front of Bex. They cussing, smoking, and spitting all aver the sidewalk. Consistent activities that piss normal people off because todays generation has no manners and don’t care about offending anyone!

AVTC: DTLA (downtown LA) as its moniker suggests has really revived itself…there’s a new park opening any day now, a new Target opening by the end of the year, two new high end gyms (Equinox and Crossfit, montly fees start at $175.00) and scores of new restaurants, along with Disney Hall and Staples Center, both with full schedules, LA Live, a Ralphs, and so many other things enticing people to live and play here. I feel safer in DTLA than in Lancaster.

If Lancaster needed a model, they could certainly look to DTLA because they had a homeless problem at one point and still do in parts of the City, I imagine. But they manage it well and it doesn’t deter people with great earning capacity from living in DTLA.

Steve Hofbauer works in DTLA (or maybe he’s retired now) but he certainly had a great understanding of “big city” issues and I think he puts that knowledge into play for the City of Palmdale. I don’t know if Lancaster has that going for them or not. It seems that Lancaster has politicians who are stuck in the AV most of the time and fail to branch out or see things differently. Heck, I’d be surprised to learn if any one of them had traveled on Metrolink or AVTA at any point in their careers.

No Guy, just the many who block the sidewalks, scrape their wheels against the side wall of the Lemon Leaf Bistro for hours on end, throw rocks at windows of Artist Loft tenants, trespass onto the rooftops, and just recently caused a 74 year old man to fall from his bicycle hitting the curb and causing multiple lacerations. All of them? Most likely not, but these problems didn’t exist until the shop went into that location adjacent to the lofts private parking.

If the offender is riding or carrying a skateboard, he or she shall be referred to as skateboarders. If they were wielding banjos while blocking the sidewalk and smoking crack in the elevators, they’d be referred to as banjo players. It’s fair to identify them by their implement of association.
If they were a motorcycle gang, it would be a “biker” problem.

Laws are for everyone’s safety, Cyberclown sees them as racist oppression by the evil capitalsts of which he is one and not the hypocrite communist/socialist/marxist that Guy actually is.
