Mayor says Lancaster wants a new Head Shop!
In a surprising move, the citizens of Lancaster, at least according to the Mayor, favor having marijuana dispensaries in their fair city. Despite the fact that this is illegal at the Federal level, the Mayor of Lancaster is majorly “jonesing” to get in front of this issue.

“Medical marijuana is good for the community, dude” said the mayor. “It’s really good for all kinds of stuff that’s bad for you. Some righteous dude with a lot of letters after his name said that it was good for glock, glok, gloko….some really bad eye thing,” added the mayor.

He also stated that it would help support the City’s economic stimulus program. “We have a lot of fast food places that could really use a bunch of citizens with a serious case of the munchies right now,” stated Parris. “An increase in snack food sales would be an excellent side effect.”

When asked why he even felt a need to even be polling the citizens of Lancaster on this matter, Parris stated, “you’re really bringing me down, dude. This is like, you know, a really hot issue that needs to be dealt with in a well thought-out matter. Like wow, I can’t believe I just said that.”

Parris plans to call a press conference tomorrow at 4:20 p.m. to announce plans to search for someone, anyone who will be willing to bring a dispensary to town. The City of Lancaster Parks, Recreation, and Arts Department is looking for local reggae bands to play at the grand opening of the first marijuana dispensary. He also plans to bring the L.A. Sparks up to the Valley to support the effort. Cheech and Chong will be at the ribbon cutting.

I have never understood why this drug, when prescribed, should be treated differently than other prescription drugs. Why do we need a separate dispensary from a regular pharmacy?

Doctors are prescribing, and pharmacies are selling, Vicodin and Oxycontin, along with even stronger opiates, without all this hoopla. Why is medical marijuana such a big deal?

For those that are STUPID this is satire so don’t go bitching to the site admin about how this is defaming the Mayor or anyone else.
This is a good topic to debate and find a solution for (one way or another) and shouldn’t be stymied by ego’s or fears of legal recourse.

At the same time I’m a little annoyed that this is the direction the writer has taken on this subject.
It’s worth discussing, but making fun of it and playing into the ‘stereotype’ doesn’t give it the honest attention it deserves.

PKShaw,
I have always wondered why a non-narcotic drug has always been so severely branded by the government and media. I speculate it was an easy prey compared to opiates with there support from the medical industry as a whole.

I agree with PK Shaw. It is time we followed the law. The voters in California changed the law. How does any city justify not following it. If the law violates the federal law, it up to the feds to have the law declared unconstitutional. It is really on issue of State Rights.

“Take the profit out of it” is right. As it is, those profits mainly finance gang activity. It’s time to decriminalize, regulate and raise badly needed revenue from the number one cash crop (by far) in the United States.

Top Cash Crops in the United States Average Value 2003 – 2005 ($1000s)

1 Marijuana $35,803,591
2 Corn $23,299,601
3 Soybeans $17,312,200
4 Hay $12,236,638
5 Vegetables $11,080,733
6 Wheat $7,450,907
7 Cotton $5,314,870
8 Grapes $2,876,547
9 Apples $1,787,532
10 Rice $1,706,665
11 Oranges $1,583,009
12 Tobacco $1,466,633
13 Sugarbeets $1,158,078
14 Sugarcane $942,176
15 Sorghum $840,923
16 Cottonseed $821,655
17 Peanuts $819,617
18 Barley $653,095
19 Peaches $474,745
20 Beans $467,236

Based on a comparison with average production values of other crops from 2003 to 2005 marijuana is the top cash crop in 12 states, one of the top 3 cash crops in 30 states, and one of the top 5 cash crops in 39 states. 23 Marijuana is the largest cash crop in Alaska, Alabama, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

Just for your edification-the sheriffs and district attorneys in the AV do not give a rodent’s behind about Prop 215-the medical marijuana law. If they catch you with any-even with the card, you’re going to court-

Misdemeanor possession (less than an ounce-28 grams in one baggie with no scale or small baggies) is the only misdemeanor in Cali with no jail time but you have to go to NA meetings-first time. Second-fines and penalties which can be reduced by community service. Then the merry-go-round starts again. It’s time California and for that matter, the rest of the country to enter the 21st century and stop fighting the “war on drugs” which was lost so long ago, I’ve lost track. We now flush tons of money down the toilet chasing a substance free dream-ain’t ever going to happen so let’s start using some common sense.

On a serious note, there are places that drugs are dispensed safely and legally. They’re called pharmacies. They are run by medical professionals, not a bunch of Rastafarians with dreadlocks.

I want to be sitting on the front row of the City Council Chambers when Sherry Marquez is asked to vote for this. Somehow I don’t see the Lancaster Baptist coalition going to something like this. Maybe the Mayor should check with the Axel Anderson about this before he takes a leadership role on this matter.

Susan, I’ve been saying this for years but as long as people think the proper role of government is to dictate our private lives, common sense will remain quite uncommon. I have never heard anyone say they weren’t going to use drugs simply because they’re illegal. If they want to use them they will and if they don’t they won’t regardless of law.

But the question of medical marijuana isn’t about getting high, it’s about alleviating the side effects of chemotherapy and controlling the symptoms of other debillitating diseases.

So you are obviously still living in the “Reefer Madness” days. You still believe all the propaganda told you by government. The government cannot control it so they demonize it. They can control the heroin trade, the coke trade, the liquor trade, and the tobacco trade, but they have never been able to control the marijuana or the meth trades. With meth they have outlawed or banned many key ingredients, so the tweekers find products with those ingredients in them and try to extract them. Often they are sloppy and the resulting drug is what turns people into toothless, sucked up, zombies. Real amphetamines, pharmacological amphetamines, (like what Elvis or JFK took) do not make you look like that. I’m in no way condoning meth, I’ve had many friends in my past who are still trapped to this day by speed. However a plant that grows naturally, is God given. What is the difference between caffein, nicoteen, alcohol, or marijuana? They are all drugs, they all are widely used. One is demonized, (the one that has NEVER killed anyone) and the rest are ok. It’s completely illogical, and an obvious propaganda campaign.

Hey Harding, the doctors making the recommendation may or may not be Rastafarian, but what does their religion have to do with anything? You have this weird image stuck in your head of a bunch of hippies smoking pot all around a doctors office or something. We do NOT need the A.M.A. getting their grubby hands on dispensaries or controlling the legislation. Remember when healthcare was affordable for people, when doctors would charge what a person could afford, when they would come to your house? That is when doctors had power over their own profession and practice. That was before the A.M.A. started dictating.

If the Marijuana Pharmacy becomes a reality, it would also be a good idea to pass an ordinance requiring it maintain some sort of Needle-Exchange programme, where IV drug users could properly dispose of their equipment and obtain new and sterile equipment. I don’t have any problem with MJ. Alcohol and tobacco are legal, why not pot? I think this medical MJ business is bogus.

I still think you should get a DUI if you are stoned and get caught driving. I think one problem with MJ is you test positive for it for day’s even weeks after you use it. So how do you prove a doper is high?

Prohibition taught us that criminalizing alcohol would decrease its use. After prohibition alcohol consumption skyrocketed. I suspect if MJ is legalized the same thing will happen, only the state will get the tax revenue.

My problem with the state getting more money is they’ll expect it and give us more of their failing programs that hook people on their free extorted dollars.

Apparently my satire re: Rastafarians was missed.

The point is, this debate should not be taking place on a local level. In terms of damage to society, alcohol has got marijuana beat any day of the week, so that is, in my mind, not that big of an issue.

I think the Mayor is deliberately confusing the public’s desire for marijuana to be legal for medical purposes with opening up a dispensary in Lancaster. This debate should be taking place at the Federal level. If you think it should be legalized, call Buck McKeon or Kevin McCarthy, not Rex Parris. I think the idea of having a local marijuana dispensary run by “who knows?” is a really bad idea. I saw a marijuana booth at the poppy festival. The guys were not wearing white lab jackets. There have been no people with glaucoma begging the City Council to please help restore their eyesight, nor have there been cancer patients begging the mayor to relieve their pain.

I’m still waiting to see Sherry Marquez if and when she votes for this.

I didn’t think the Mayor of Lancaster had taken a position on this issue. At the last CC meeting all he said was he wanted to get input from several segments of the community. What’s wrong with that?

And Harding, people haven’t gone to the CC meeting seeking relief with glaucoma and chemotherapy treatments because they just buy the stuff from their friends and neighbors. The medicinal value is worth more than the risk of criminal prosecution. Which still begs the question – why should they have to make such a choice?

Forget the dispensaries; sell it in pharmacies.

I would tend to agree with PK on this one. I, too, do not understand why this drug has not been appropriately relegated to licensed pharmacies for proper distribution like any other prescribed drug.

Randy, on the other hand, seem to have forgotten many of the lessons of prohibition. The use of alcohol did NOT diminish during prohibition. In fact, drunkenness was a bigger problem than before prohibition. All that prohibition did was put the manufacture, distribution, and sales of alcohol into the hands of the criminals, creating some of the worst gang violence that the world had ever seen at that time. The ‘drug war’ has done much of the same, for the same reasons.

PK, you’re actually making my point. He’s taking a leadership role on a non-issue. Ray’s question is correct. Why? In answer to Lancaster Nana’s question of when the Mayor has not been straightforward is when it comes to his wife’s land deals. He’s “not sure” about whether or not she has stuff invested, but he wants to recuse himself anyway? Mm hm.

Maybe he can go naked to the world on all of the LLC’s that he’s involved.

But back to the topic at hand. Marijuana, or more properly THZ does have some medical usages that are valid. The stupidity of the Federal government, or at least their laziness, is keeping this particular product out of the hands of those who truly need it. If it truly has medicinal properties, and most physicians agree that it does, make it available by prescription, at a pharmacy which has lots of safety controls in place. Somehow, I don’t think the dude behind the counter at the dispensary keeps really close track on how much THZ each bongload has.

On this one, I am firmly on the mayors side.
I was a proud volunteer for the Prop 215 campaign, collecting signatures, training other people to collect signatures, and then stumping across the state to talk about the proposition.
Now, I made it all the way through my teenage and adult years without trying the drug, had no interest in it at all. My interest came from working with sick people, dying people, whose doctors sometimes just mentioned that the drug might help them, and in some cases, even found a way to get it to their patients. Now, some might argue with a patient with MS, or cancer, or AIDS, about the benefits of medical pot, but not me.
I do not believe the federal government should be interfering with the right of sick people to decide for themselves what treatment works for them. The majority of Californians made their voices clear on this issue in 1996.

Coober Pedy is the name of a remote outback town in south Australia, made (somewhat) famous in the film “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”.

As for 138hwy, it’s all on video. Thomas and Kaleen recorded it, an attorney representing AVIMM recorded it. Frank Jorge (were he still here) would verify it.

You ran away when it got scary, when the counter-protesters arrived and it looked like things could get violent. The rest of us (my wife included) stood our ground while you ran away, then later said you left because you were disappointed in the low turnout.

It’s all on video.

As would I, but Billy138’s far too spineless, not to say crazy to ever back up his little macho man act. He’d have his chihuahua there though to bite your ankles. Crazy people, liars, right-wing nutjobs, Coob. That’s what this site is about.

Coober Pedy says...
Two blokes were picked up by the cops for smoking dope and appeared in court before the judge. The judge said, “You seem like nice young men, and I’d like to give you a second chance rather than jail time. I want you to go out this weekend and try to show others the evils of drug use and persuade them to give up drugs forever. I’ll see you back in court Monday.”

Monday, the two were in court, and the judge said to the first one, “How did you do over the weekend?” “Well, your honor, I persuaded 17 people to give up drugs forever.” “17 people? That’s wonderful. What did you tell them?” “I used a diagram, your honor. I drew two circles like this: O o and told them this (the big circle) is your brain before drugs and this (small circle) is your brain after drugs.” “That’s admirable,” said the judge.

“And you, how did you do?” (to the 2nd bloke) “Well, your honor, I persuaded 156 people to give up drugs forever.” “156 people! That’s amazing! How did you manage to do that!” “Well, I used the same two circles. I pointed to the small circle and told them, ‘This is your asshole before prison……’”

On second thought, why sue someone who already looks sickly, feeble and old? To serve this idiot, the Marshall would have to find the: SMOKER SECTION.. lol

Thanks for the story about that remote outback town in Austrailia, Ray. But in other words, you haven’t met ‘Coober Pedy’. Thanks again Ray.

Ray..how is it you continually get the little rodent 138 all aggitated? You and I both know 138 (Billy) ran away..he can put any spin on it he likes, he ran off.

138 is a little foul mouthed rodent who does not deserve the time you take to type something involving him/her/it. Just look at the language this mental midget uses in a public forum where children may be?

hobo,
Anything I say gets Billy agitated. My existence on the planet gets him agitated. I am everything he despises and vice-versa.

He still hasn’t figured out that ‘fascists’ and ‘Marxists’ are total opposites. What a maroon…!

Ray, if you’re wondering motive, check the 460’s in a month or two. Follow the donations back through a couple of general purpose committees. I’ll bet you’ll find a donation made from some cannabis growers association. Money properly laundered, of course.

Here is a theory:
Anyone can grow pot in there backyard and anyone can in turn consume it or sell it. Because of that simple fact it’s difficult for the government to profit from it. That being the case, it’s easier for the government to outlaw it and make money from the enforcement of that law.

What’s the end goal here? To make money or provide those in need a service?

Personally I would rather go to Burns Pharmacy on Lancaster Blvd over Pandora’s Box on Ave I.
