Better Walk Your Dogs With a Leash
A Montara man walking two lapdogs off leash was hit with an electric-shock gun by a National Park Service ranger after allegedly giving a false name and trying to walk away, authorities said Monday.

And they can write a valid traffic ticket on the 14 Freeway, as someone I know discovered to their sorrow.

He shouldn’t have cut off that Park Ranger!

Dylan’s “Dog’s run free, why can’t we” has certainly become obsolete, hasn’t it?

“Rancho Corral de Tierra has long been an off-leash walking spot for local dog owners. In December, the area became part of the national park system, which requires that all dogs be on a leash, Levitt said.”

Excessive? I’d say so. All the stupid Park Ranger had to do is follow the guy to his car, or are they too lazy – and stun-guns are more ‘fun’? Or, the PR could’ve confiscated his dogs….that would’ve gotten his real name out of him.

For years dog owners with their dogs on leashes have struggled with those who think their ‘dogs should run free’. I don’t have a problem with this, if it’s a dog park, and I understand why people want their dogs off a leash-but since this so-called ‘law’ recently became enacted – the PR was totally out of line.

Walking a dog off it’s leash—they should have shot that dastardly scofflaw! That’ll teach him to use a leash. Why the nerve of that guy!

I walk my dogs all the time in the local desert. We encounter the coyotes every once and while. The dogs like chasing the rabbits and it is good exercise. I am waiting for the day when some animal control cop writes me a leash law ticket for having dogs loose in the desert. The day that happens will be the day the AV has changed forever.

I have seen the LASD writing off road motor cycles tickets for people riding in the local deserts. Times are changing out here and the cities need to generate revenue. That type of enforcement is a total waste of our tax payers money. I would rather see the LASD write those assholes with the boom boxes tickets and I know those are against the law and a public nuisance.

Like the Chris Rock video posted elsewhere, the incident isn’t about the dog off leash but the result of wilfully ignoring a cop’s legal commands. The guy, regardless of whether you agree with the validity of the underlying offense, first lied to the officer and then in effect said “oh, fu%# you” and left. Bad idea, always.

Considering the attitude problem of most law enforcement when you walk away from them, he’s lucky he didn’t get his head blown off and shot in the back 12 times.

When contacted by a cop, the cop is always right. Even if he is wrong. File a complaint against him and that is where you get your satisfaction.

I had a hot head cop lose his mind at the AV Fair once over parking. This guy was wrong, I moved my car to another space, walked close enough to get his name and filed a complaint. I grabbed a couple of names from other people and my complaint was found to be legit. I don’t know what happened to the cop, but a supervisor from LASD sent me an apology on behalf of Baca.

I think the motorcycle helmet and tight britches caused a strain on the officers brain. Motor cycle cops are the worst, they have no people skills and don’t care who they yell at.

ritcsilv: When anyone hit him with the “quota” stuff, my neighbor the ex-CHP always responded “Oh,no sir/mam, we don’t have quotas. We get to write as many as we want.”
