Update on PK Shaw
Update on Patricia Shaw: Patricia’s first week of intensive therapy is over, and has been very successful. She is now able to speak well, but can’t always find the right words. She was able to walk with a cane yesterday, and is starting to be able to dress again, which will make her feel much better. She of course hates being out of her beloved Palmdale, but is realizing the value of extensive therapy. ~From Michael Shaw
I won’t really have time to check up on this, so please remember, the negative things you say reflect who you are, not who Patricia is.

Trust in the Lord. You will get your strength back. With that, you physical being will have to catch up with your touch character!

Thank you guys.
My relationship with Patricia started right in at intheav.com, and I wasn’t sure if I liked her much. She was brash, bold, confrontational, contrary, and sometimes made me want to pull my hair out.. LOL!
I finally got to meet her in 2007 at Ray Cunneff’s blogger bbq. We were inseparable that night, and its been that way ever since. Patricia is all those things that made me not like her so much, and so, so much more. She is challenging, she makes you think, but she also has the biggest heart of anyone I think I have ever met.
I’ll always be thankful to Ray for that bbq. I met some of the finest people in this Valley, and found out that I was simply wrong when I decided I didn’t like someone because we disagreed on some political things.
That BBQ was life changing for me, not only because I found such a great friend, but because I learned a lesson about judging people to harshly for political differences.
There is no doubt PK will be back and running circles around all of us. It’s just who she is.
For those of you interested in signing a card for her, we will have something for everyone soon. On October 11th the League of Women Voters AV will be having a Centennial celebration marking 100 years of voting rights for women in California, an event that Patricia was spearheading prior to her stroke, and we will be honoring her work and will have something there for people to sign.. something rather large. I’ll make sure I post something here with a time and location closer to the event so anyone wanting to stop by to sign it for her can.

Thank you for the update on PK. I’m looking forward to her return to intheav so we can once again try to get her to see the errors of her way…OK maybe not, but her commentary is missed, even if she’s wrong.

Denise,
In the years since our blogger’s party in 2007, it’s amazing how many people have told me, one way or another, what a memorable event it was.
Jeanne and I were so busy cooking and preparing the steam table, we had the barbeque and the smoker going, that we weren’t fully aware of the interactions that were going on. But it was clear afterward, that once people who were anonymous on the blog had a chance to meet socially, the entire tone of the website discussions changed.
Unfortunately, it didn’t last very long. Many of those bloggers no longer visit this website. And some of those that remain have forgotten what was learned that day.
Thankfully, there are others, like Denise and Patty, like Guy and Jeanne and I, who have remained great friends.

Great news, indeed. I hope she makes a 100% recovery. She’s a fantastic lady. I look foreword to working with her on the WS School bond over-site committee.

Perhaps it’s time for another (friendly) blogger get-together.

Hold on there Ray. If we all liked each other, that would not make blogging entertaining.
We like each other because we are all independent thinkers and have ideas we want to share with others.

When PK makes her return to what ever forum it is, it will be a good day.

avbb,
The whole point of such a get-together is to see each other as real people, sure with differing opinions, but real people without pseudonyms.

avbb,
Do you never socialize with people with whom you disagree?? Why assume you would not like them?? What are you, 12?
Guy and I discussed having another bloggers party at least 3 years ago, but it never happened. Maybe now is a better time?
Glad to learn Patty is doing better!! Has never a more apt discription been given for any one person? I do like and respect Patty. Unfortunately, there are those for whom first impressions are correct and everlasting.

Am so happy, and relieved that PK is doing so well – thanks Denise for the update.
A person once explained to me one time that people who have had a stroke, need to rebuild a ‘bridge’ back to the parts of the brain that were affected – which can take a very long time in some instances. Sounds like she’s getting excellent care.

I think that people forget sometimes that you can like, and even have deep respect for someone, and still disagree.
Patricia and I are a good example of that. We have spent hours on the phone debating an issue, sometimes even so heated that our respective husbands thought for sure we were going to “break up”, but that will never happen. There is simply no one in this valley that I like more, trust more, or have as much respect for. No matter how heated our conversations get, we always end them laughing, and normally with PK telling me that “one of these days you’ll learn to accept that I’m right and you’re wrong” in that way of hers that once you get to know her, you realize what that means.
Patricia has made such amazing progress. Aside from what was posted here, she is also playing scrabble and Words with Friends with her regular partners, and is off all medication except a little aspirin now and then, and a cholesterol medication.
It may be a long road back, but its a road she’ll have lots of friends to help her down!

Yes, Jeanne stop the hate filled speeches and debate. PK Shaw wouldn’t approve and needs your support to get better.

My friend, much older than PK, who had the stroke – to which others explained the process, was an actor. What really bridged his loss/inability to connect his thoughts with his speech was when they brought in a theatrical “diction” instructor.
Seeing how PK is enthralled and active in all activities that include debating – this just might help her along – as it would be a challenge.
I’ve never known PK not to grasp for a challenge, that’s for sure.
Just a thought.

yes, PK needs to have her mind stimulated by honest debate. But she’ll have to go elsewhere to find it, very few here can debate without personal attacks and even I have stooped to their level. But then again I just got tired of using reason and logic supported by facts to these proclaimed intelligent individuals.
