Wild prospect Justin Fontaine suspended for using gay slur on Twitter about Foo Fighters
I just had to say something about this, it seems to me that no matter how offensive a comment is, it is still the right to speak and think as you like. Recently several people have either lost theirjobs or have been suspended for alleged anti gay comments. This is censorship in the worse way, I or anyone else have the right of free speech, the management of the Wild went too far. What this player said was his right and he wasn’t representing the team when he made the comment. If you are a liberal left TV show like South Park its okay to protray and insult gays and frankly South Park does go too far and is disgusting at times. My daughter caught one of their worse shows (detailing in graphic terms and pictures)a roden crawing up the anal canal.
My grand daugthers love cartoons and this is what is influencing our children. My other complaint I was watching a story on Lady Gaga who goes out of her way defending and helping the LGBT crowd, I don’t know who Michael T is but he was quite offensive towards Lady Gaga.Neither here nor there but it seems there is a double standard when it comes to the gay agenda.
I am not saying that what this player said was right, but it was his right to say whatever he wants on his own time.
Obama when it was to his benefit not to allow the NRA ads showing what a liar and hypocrite he is, is simply censorship and shouldn’t be condoned.
I am sure that if this player had made an anti religious comment nothing would have happened to him.

Minnesota Wild prospect Justin Fontaine has fit in nicely with the team’s AHL affiliate Houston Aeros in his rookie season, posting 34 points in 49 games, good for second in team scoring. He’s also fit in well off the ice — three weeks ago, he joined a large contingent of Wild prospects that are currently on Twitter, interacting with fans.
He’s taken to Twitter quite well by all accounts, too — except for an unfortunate incident this last weekend when he used a gay slur.

Sunday night, Fontaine’s roommate David MacIntyre tweeted about the Foo Fighters’ Grammy performance. Fontaine responded, attempting to sarcastically disparage Dave Grohl’s critically acclaimed grunge rock band. But he chose his words poorly.
Fontaine deleted the tweet, but not before a number of Wild fans had seen and reacted to it, and Houston Aeros captain John DiSalvatore had retweeted it for some reason.
Wild management didn’t take too kindly to this and it responded immediately, suspending Fontaine for his next two games.

The Wild has suspended Houston Aeros forward Justin Fontaine for the next two games after he used a gay slur during a Twitter exchange about the Grammys with a teammate on Sunday night.
Fontaine soon removed the tweet and apologized, saying, “My apologies to everyone, it was wrong. Twitter rookie and it came out totally wrong. It was a roommate battle, nothing more. #sorry.”
Additionally, the Wild issued a statement regarding their disciplinary actions and publicly apologizing for the slur. Guess this is what happens after someone like political commentator Roland Martin of CNN gets suspended for homophobic jokes during the Super Bowl. The lesson: No more gay comedy during massive television events on social media (celebs only).
The team’s response in this instance was swift, appropriate, and frankly, a little unexpected. Even Hockey Wildnerness’ Bryan Reynolds, who instantly decried the tweet when he saw it, felt its response would likely be more understated:
What the fallout will be will play out throughout the day. More than likely, it will be done behind the scenes. If I had to guess, the level of usage of Twitter by Wild players and prospects is about to undergo a serious cutback. It’s disappointing, because the level of interaction with these players was priceless.
The problem is, when you are a pro athlete, you are no longer representing only yourself. As frustrating as that may be, it is the truth. This type of language gives the entire Wild organization a black eye, especially if there is no recourse. If Fontaine had called an opponent that word, he would be suspended.
Reynolds is correct: This did reflect poorly on the Wild organization, and it would have continued to reflect poorly on the Wild if they had simply dealt with this privately or recommended the Wild prospects cut back on their Twitter usage. While those responses aren’t endorsements of Fontaine’s choice of word, neither are they rebukes, and that’s what this calls for.
As Reynolds said, this would have necessitated a suspension had it been said on the ice. Truth is, Fontaine represents the Wild organization on and off the ice, and the word remains damaging regardless of where it’s said, so kudos to the Wild for making it clear that the use of gay slurs anywhere will necessitate the same response.

When there is a double standard it affects everyone’s rights especially free speech. At AVC I was shocked at that there were a free speech zone, I did not give up my constitutional rights the second I entered onto the AVC campus, this is just another way to censor or discouraged individuals. Lately I have been discouraged from commenting on one of the more outspoken idiots and that will come to a stop.
Again while it was okay with the liberal left here it was okay with his hetrosexual phobic comments, but not okay when I responded. This is a double standard.
I had hopes that this cretin and the other idiots would understand what I was doing, but the biggest difference from what I said and they said is that I said the truth while they relied on opinion and lies.No one should ever be censored no matter how offensive whatever that person said, one of my african/american teachers always used to tell the class bring in a white supremist and allow them to express their opinion, what he next said to the class that while he personally disagreed with the message of white supremists, he would defend that supremist’s right of free speech. Over the years that simple statement has influenced my life and something I have never forgot. I told how a bunch of gays were acting up in Hollywood, that was their right to act like fools. But that right ended the second they blocked mine and my girlfriend’s path in the crosswalk and to scream in my face after I suggested that they remove themselves from my path. The result was predicable to anyone who knew me, my girl grabbed my arm to stop me cause she knew what would happen next when they ignored me. And yes they made a path after what I did to a couple of the gaybirds who stood in my way. You eitheer respect my rights or lose the respect for your own. But my friend is right, I need to move on and not allow an idiot to take up any more of my time.And it is only respect for his wishes that I do this.

Most of thedecent teachers have left AVC long ago, my bitch was some kids came to me and asked to start a White Students Union Club, I had to tell them since I knew of an group that tried to start up a white student club and were turned down because it was deemed to be racist, of course there was a black students union but that was okay. Its why I say there is a double standard and I blame the left and the liberals for this, they have managed to divide this nation. of course the GOP has done its share also, I really am starting to think we need another revolution to fix whats wrong. A little historical footnote: The term “foo fighters” comes from World War II pilots who were seeing flying objects they could not identify. Before they were called UFO’s of “flying saucers”, they were called “foo fighters”.

I disagree Marino, what you or I or even Fontaine says off the clock and at home is his business and right of free speech. Again to allow any infringement of the first amendment is a dangerous road to travel down. While mine or Fontaine’s comments can be offensive there is a double standard, but it is our right to be offensive. Just like its the right of white supremist to make and have offensive comments and agenda. Sorry the Springer show is on after cheaters which every now and then has a good one, like the marine who thought his wife was cheating she was and he had met her in mexico she thought she had a meal ticket for life, but she was cheating with an illegal alien. Funny how when the illegal aliens are alone they aren’t so brave as when there are 20 or more.Yesterday there was a gay couple and it was pretty funny, one was cheating with another puffer who cross dressed and the one who had been cheated on said, “I’m gay but not that gay”, he didn’t want to dress up like a woman. It got plenty of laughs, just shows that gay couples are just as fucked or more so than straights. Sometimes my daughter watches the shows with me and we have some great laughs, some of those people must have a low IQ like Marsh.

Marino better hit those coyotes with a couple of .22 mag rounds soon, they are sneaky. In Oklahoma when I was aroound 15 years old, me and some buddies went after a pack that had dogs also in the pack. They were hard to run and track down, we heard the news on the radio. Goat meat is tasty and you bet the coyotes mouths are watering. Of courseI just had a thought, are you talking about the two legged or four legged coyotes?

Freaking Coyotes. I have to watch my dogs everyday when I walk them in the desert. I have a 112 lb puppy who chases the coyotes, but would not know what to do if he catches one. The other two dogs are 30 pounders and perfect coyote food. One of them chases coyotes, but has not been eaten yet. Last December there was a pack of as many as 8 terrorizing our tract. Animal control gave me an attitude when I complained about them. There are two left, but they run from me. I need a rifle with a scope with explosive rounds.

When I lived in Van Nuys there were a pack that started to attack my daughters mother, Iran out with one of my heavy practice swords and ran at them and they split. Another we were camping up at Half Dome and a pack ran at us and I threw the sleeping bag I had around my shoulders up and they also ran off, both times there were dogs in the pack. But never ever run away from them, all that does is make them think you are prey and they chase you down.

cagy/You are correct it has gone way to far and it should be a concern to all who value free speech.Recently at least 5 journalists I know of have been suspended or fired because of harmless comments made on air, or books that they have written on issues were deemed to be offensive to someone or group.
