I don’t know any of the details of this accident, but I can bet speed was a factor. When living in the AV, the boneheaded traffic engineers would refuse to refuce the speed limits. Even with housing developments being built on bith sides of Rancho Vista near Hillview, freeway speed limits remain in place.

Traffic Engineers are classic dumb public employees. They cannot use common sense or judgement in evaluating traffic patterns. They rely on traffic surveys.

Years ago at Vons on RV and 30th West, there was a fatal crash. The city placed raised median strips to prevent left turns in and out of Vons. They then raised the speed limit by 5 mph because a survey said a raised median allowed for the increase in the speed limit, even with a park, crosswalks, and traffic lights.

Traffic Engineers have college degrees, but no common sense. Degrees with no common sense are dangerous.

AVB

Speed played a roll.

But legally, speed limits have to be set via STATE law. The way that works is they put one of the those hoses across the road and measure speed of vehicles over a several day period. They then average the speeds and the the speed limit is 85% of the average. That might not be exactly as the law states, but as close to it as my memory serves.

There are exceptions; school zones, business district, hospital zones, etc..

So blame the knuckleheads in the state legislature for this fiasco.

I was on scene and the allegation at the time is that the individual was drunk. It was a grizzly scene. Car on fire, occupant screaming, a deputy trying to extract him, fire dept. trying to get the flames out.

Pieces of the car traveled a hundred feet.

the rancho vista freeway has a lot of idiots on it especially in the early morning. the next spot is just before the 14 on ramp. idiots wait 10 seconds before the ramp to cut off all and get on freeway.

The problem with allowing speed limits by using a formula, is it does not take into account cars traveling at 50 mph have to go somewhere after they collide with something. With residential neighborhoods at that location, cars will hit things like pedestrians, trees, walls, and whatever else is there.

Again, traffic engineers are trained to follow a formula. Deviating to common sense goes against acadamia.

It sounds like the speed was greater than the speed limit and the driver could have been DUI do to the time of the crash. Maybe the driver fell asleep.

Overall, with the increase in population in the AV, the speed limits are too high.

That is the problem, State Law! Takes common sense out of ghe equation. Heaven forbid if a public employee has to think. How many bad crashes have there been on Rancho Vista in the last 15 years? Remember the one at Marie Kerr where two cars hit and ricocheted into a group of kids standing on the corner. Cars traveling at 50 mph or faster go somewhere. Traffic engineers are classic boobs. If they can’t think, why have them.

AVBB true you can have a degree but still be stupid when it comes to common sense, we yelled for a stop sign at 20 east and ave j, it wasn’t until someone died who had political pull got a stop sign placed there, but I know for a fact their were so many crashes on a weekly basis it was sickening. The AV now is a death trap especially with the drunken illegal aliens driving around drunk also.

After driving in L.A. for so many years, the AV with it’s clear roads and higher speeds was such a relief and still is.

There is nothing quite like driving down twisting roads between Green Valley and Leona Valley clear of any traffic in a late model BMW doing 135.

The speed limit isn’t what’s at fault. It’s people speeding thus breaking the law. No matter what the limit is, these knuckleheads aren’t going to obey it. So why punish everyone by lowering the speed limit? That won’t solve anything.

Drive for a day in the SFV. 35mph strictly enforced. It’s so boring and takes forever to get anyplace.

Punish those that break the law, not those that don’t. But then again its just another source of revenue for the state.
